What size did you take the aurlands in compared to other loafers you have?

good q. i wear an 8 in alden LHS suede loafer and i took a 41 in the aurlands at the reccomendation of the NMWA team...the aurlands will stretch quite a bit, so with how often i wear em (1-2 a week?), it took a few months for mine to feel perfect. that initial break in period can be of a pain ********** (or foot i guess) but it worked out in the end.

Glad I asked because that's my size too! At least in the Alden LHS suede loader - 8D is a perfect fit for me. Was eying the 41 in aurland but wasn't sure, caught myself waffling on sizing after reading around. I'd be wearing them mostly sockless.

i'd still x2 check with the NMWA guys but yeah sounds like a 41 might be the right pick for ya!

Probably as good a thread as any to post this in, looking for some advice on a summer shoe. Normally wear sneakers in the summer, generally pretty SWD in terms of dressing, but would like a more dressy shoe, particularly for the scenario of being on holiday (normally would pack white canvas sneakers+nike something for walking/hiking) and going out for dinner wearing casual-ish trousers and a polo/untucked shirt.

Options:
espadrilles (pros: cheap, comfortable, can wear with shorts, packable; cons: not that formal, not great for walking, looks weird away from the sea IMO)
penny loafers (pros: decent for walking, versatile; cons: doesn't go that well with SWD things/shorts, unwieldy to pack, everything except Alden LHS looks either too preppy or too dressy to me)
fake espadrilles with a rubber sole (pros: comfortable, go with shorts, decent for walking; cons: relatively expensive, still not that formal)
slip-on sneakers ala Diemme (pros: good for walking, versatile, comfortable; cons: expensive, hard to pack, would like to go more formal)

Other things not listen (other kinds of loafers mainly) not really my style I think. Anyone found a good solution to this that isn't Alden LHS?

are camp Mocs part of the “not my style” list? I think they’re perfect summer shoes.

what about 3-eye timbs?

Thanks for all the useful replies! Forgot to add that I'm in the UK, which makes some of the suggestions difficult (no cheap aldens, very limited availability of camp moc-type shoes which I otherwise quite like).

Probably the best thing for me is to go out and try on a bunch of loafers, but that's much harder than browsing the internet!

Have you looked at crockett and Jones harvard loafers? They're similar to the lhs.

+1 for Paraboot Reims. Aside from very formal situations it dresses up and down quite well.
