Original SE user here. Haven't liked the look or size of any phone since. There was speculation of an updated 5SE years ago as the phone was made and still used in India. When the upgrade rumor stopped I bought a new SE.
Few months later Apple discontinued the SE.
Will check out the 12 mini. Form factor is very agreeable.

My wife and I had been holding on to our iphone 5s's the past several years and just got the 12 minis. They're a bit bigger and heavier, but not terrible. I think I've only had 5 phones in the past 20 yrs, all of them mentioned recently mentioned in this thread (a Razr, a couple basic Nokia bars, the Iphone 5, then a used Iphone 5s when my 5 broke and I didn't want to the 10, which was huge imo). The mini's been great so far. I hope it sells well, so they keep making them. I'd even like something much smaller - with just a phone, camera, music.

****. Even the mini version is bigger than the older iPhones? I have a six and I'll feel really guilty about upgrading even though I like the look of the 12. It's just that most apps are no longer supported on it and the older version of Safari doesn't work on some websites.

It's bigger than the 4, 5 or original SE, but smaller than 6-11:

Have not used a phone Face ID. What's the user consensus? Is it the only option of operating a newer phone?

It doesn't work with a mask on...
I wish mine still had Touch ID as a backup.
Now I have to go through all the trauma of inputting 4 numbers if I'm out shopping.
It's horrible.

you can always use passcode, but imo face id really shines as an authentication mechanism in apps which support face id -- no more remembering pesky passwords
The touch ID did the same thing. I still prefer touch ID over face ID.

I think face id is way more accurate than touch id, and there's an added benefit of not sacrificing precious screen real estate for a button that is very limited in actions it supported.
That button is also a Home Screen button!

I have the iPhone X and miss the size of the smaller phones. They featured a home button in the latest iPad Air that had Touch ID built in, which will likely get ported into the new phones next year. Agree that I hope the mini sells well as I will likely upgrade next year as 5G gets built out more in the US to be actually useful.

Small phones are hard to text on, the screen is too narrow, so people shouldn't be allowed to use small phones because they just dont know any better.

But they fit in your pockets easier. I don't want an iPad mini as my phone.

Same. The main value in a larger screen is for internet/videos, both of which I basically never use on a phone.

Agree again. I have an iphone 7 and would never want to go larger than that. Almost never watch videos on my phone. That's what TVs are for.

At home I watch youtube and read the internet on my iPad. At work, I watch youtube and read the internet on my dual screen monitors.
