I remember years ago, Foo posed a DB bespoke Rubinnaci suit. It looked fvcking terrible looking but Foo kept defending it.

God, he looks like he's going to his first communion.

Shirt sleeve cuff is top shelf...a rather cheeky phrasing, in this case
I probably looked like this in my early 30's when I started wearing a suit everyday for work. Also a 4x1 DB is somewhat more of a relaxed vibe when it comes to jackets. He does not look relaxed in this photo. It's stiff and not natural given Mafoo's age at this point in his career. I think people should dress their age and look to blend in with their coworkers.

The Beau Brummell thing. "To be truly elegant, one should not be noticed."

Brummell didn't live in an age of low-rise, slim-fit chinos and poly-blend polos, though.

And anyway, Brummell DID get noticed. All the time. He squandered his wealth to get noticed. That's how we know of him. No one dressed like he did at the time when he started doing it. I believe the context of his quote was that if you're walking down the street, the average man shouldn't turn to look at you, at a time when most aristocrats dressed in a way that would make a Pitti peacock blush. The people in the know should notice you because of the understated elegance of your outfits: the fit and the quality rather than the gold and the silk.

Some twenty years ago, Debrett's was advising (per Kate Fox): "forget the old British adage that it is ill-bred to be overdressed." The author claims that this rule dates from a time when "it was the accepted norm to dress up for any activity more than gardening." At this time, he says, "overdressing meant being got up in a flashy, overly elaborate, or embarrassing way and took no account of the modern invasion of sports-inspired clothes that has enslaved whole swathes of the nation into sweats and trainers."

I don't think that Foo stands out in the picture because he's wearing a suit. He stands out because he doesn't look good in it. It's badly-tailored, too fussy in the lapels/buttons, and basically reflective. He also has too much contrast for such a washed-out look.

Oh no, I mean it in the sense that he looks like he's an 8 year old going to his first communion lol.
