@stuffedsuperdud coming in hot on the tail of everyone gently ribbing repro workwear:

Last week my 22yo daughter, a senior at UCLA, came home for spring break and proudly showed off her thrifted Carhartt bib overalls. They were black and not brown but other than that the same ones her old man wore out by the dozens.

I wish they put the hip pouch on all colors of bib overalls. I’ve only seen them on the tan.

If jumpsuits are the black tie of casual wear, what's the white tie? Overalls?

Might as well go straight to the top. And yes, I will be wearing oxfords with whatever it is.

So I want a typical "American" oxford to wear untucked over shorts or more workwear-y pants. I was thinking vintage Brooks Brothers, as they seem to have a longer, more boxy fit. Any other options to consider? Anyone with experience with Wythe or Jakes LDN care to chime in? Do their shirts give the same feel and vibe as vintage BB? I don't own any vintage BB, either, so would love some feedback if they are as good (soft and comfy) as I imagine, or if they're not all that good.

What about vintage Polo Ralph Lauren? That logo may work better when worn in the way you describe with shorts.

I have a couple of oxfords from Juniors that I really like, they do MTM and MTO and they have a 'full cut' fit which is supposed to be close to the vintage BB oxfords.

Glenn (the owner) came up through O'Connells and really knows his stuff

IME gitman vintage has the best fitting untucked shirts that are not short. Most BB and RL will look like they're meant to be tucked in: very long scalloped tails and/or long bottom button to end of shirt hem distance. Exceptions are BB Black Fleece and Red Fleece, although I do remember them being rather slim in the chest.

I bought a classic Oxford Cloth Button Down from J. Mueser. It has all of the old school details - unlined collar, nice collar roll, button flap pocket, locker hook, narrow placket, excellent cotton, made in Italy. They run slightly trim but not skinny. I sized up from a typical 16 to a 16.5 and that was ideal for me. They have blue stripes and orange stripes as well as solid white. I need a bit longer sleeve so I have inquired about MTO and other color options. This is the kind of shirt you could wear forever and mix it as casual or trad as you want.

Proper Cloth will make you a custom Oxford for the same price as OTR at most of the places people are recommending.

In the recent write up about Husbands you talk about the length of their coats. But looking at their online measurements they really don’t look any longer than other places (even Drake’s which you always say look short). Is your comment more about the cut than the actual length?
I wondered about this too. Lots of the SF talk about Husbands references the more generous coat/jacket length but their website indicates measurements on the short side (e.g. 29.9" back length for 40 chest). Marginally shorter than Drakes.

Ordered a suit last week. Will post impressions when I receive it.

not to hijack this thread but if you're still interested I posted this to the Husbands thread.
