Some of the most hardcore repro brands purposely include those "lower quality" characteristics in the name of "authenticity." For example, using cotton thread instead of nylon. As the IG person notes, cotton threads are less durable than nylon. Or how Buzz Rickson will intentionally cut from the loose grain areas of a hide and use them for certain parts of the leather jacket. Back in the day, the government contracted leather jackets from makers, and since there was a war going on, people made the most of the hides. Now that's being purposely put into thousand-dollar jackets in the name of authenticity.
I mean, all of this is perfectly consistent with the absurdity of soft as **** six/seven-figure bros who sit at computers all day paying three months' worth of blue collar wages to dress like the suffering subset of 1930s America not shown in Apparel Arts / Esquire. Straight up Ignatius J. Reilly nonsense, right down to the stupid hat, but at least it'll confuse future anthropologists, which is a mildly amusing thought to me.
