I enjoyed the article as well, some good inspiration.

And of course I can relate to the introduction: When I was out to get lunch today (still working from home), I once again wondered at how blandly many people dressed (men and women alike). Washed-out dark colours abound on shapeless or ill-fitting garments, like people want to signal that they don't care at all about clothing. Maybe many people indeed don't care that much about clothing itself and more about the signalling that comes with it. And obviously many people don't like to stand out.

Anyway, I'd be glad if the people that do enjoy clothing heeded the PTO article and didn't care about standing out all that much. And of course I'd enjoy seeing more happy suits in the wild, they don't even have to come along with a tie ;)

Are 3sixteen-SL100x still a go-to recommendation for jeans that will age nice and are generally flattering for most? I had a pair of the slim tapered years ago but grew out of them and had multiple crotch blowouts (those two points are likely correlated). I replaced those with a pair of orSlow 107 which I like quite a bit and still fit well in the waist, but I've found the thighs and leg opening a bit tight for my comfort/style. They're still great, just a bit slim. I'm looking for a new pair that go with lots of things short of a sport coat.

I own a pair of these and I have some thoughts. Firstly, to get it out of the way, I find jeans insanely personal and the idea of a style or cut that is universal enough to solidly reccomend, just a super difficult idea. I own way too many pairs and none are perfect but I live in hope of one day finding the perfect pair…
For me the sl100x age beautifully - the fade is glorious , and the way the denim softens is as good as any denim i own. They are quite tight - I would reccomend buying a few sizes to try .. I squeeze into the 30, which is my regular size but in these I’d probably ideally like a 31. that said I like the shape on these on the 30 better than the 31 so kept the tighter size.
The rise is mid-low so for me they work great with more modern looks but for my physique not so good with tailored jackets (for tailoring I like Anglo Italian jeans atm).
They also shrunk a fair bit for me in the wash so don’t get them hemmed straight away. I did and they’re now slightly too short.
That said, I bought 4 pairs of different brands after these and have still found them the best I own, and they get the most wear of any of my jeans. I think for most modern clothes they’re an excellent partner and I can see why Derek recommends them so highly.

I think this quote here, is sublime and inspiring:

[When my yoga teacher] was younger, his mom was very conscious of what she wore and how everything had its time and place. Even the china set. She would never bring them out unless it was for a very special dinner. However, when he was about 14, his mom got cancer and was very close to passing away. She recovered, but he distinctly remembers the day that she embraced the idea of *******. She put on her most beautiful dress and busted out the china, and they ate meatloaf on a regular Tuesday. At that point, he realized that she started to live. Like really live. So he always wears designer whatever the **** he wants, whenever the **** he wants. Since he told me that story, I’ve sort of adopted that. I used to try to dress like everyone else. Like at my niece’s bday. Shorts and a nice top. This year I plan on wearing a beautiful dress because *******. I wanna do it. I will be the best-looking motherfucker at that damn pool party anyone has ever seen!

Just wanted to share these, seemed to fit here. Have been searching for some shoes to wear in summer/fall, even with shorts, that are a bit different and not necessarily boat shoes (so any recommendations for something other than white sneakers for summer would be appreciated).

I am not a huge fan of things like espadrilles etc. due to my foot needing more support, so I really like this chunkier take on a camp moc. They seem to be decently constructed, vibram soles...thoughts? I really like how these look compared to the more normal camp moc style. May be hard to wear in the summer, but they really will be nice for fall.

These Rancourt Ranger mocs are on sale for $200. Made in Maine. Not a bad alternative to the W&B suedes...

Red Wing also does a similar sort of chunky/workwear-ish camp moc. Similar vibes to the W&B, but a touch slimmer in the sole, shorter on the vamp, and IMO 2 eyelets should make them easier to wear with shorts.

And I know people on SF don't like them for some reason, but I think the proportions on Oak Street's camp mocs are just *chefs kiss*

I had been poking around for some camp mocs, too. Was gravitating toward more off-beat models like Yuketen's canoe moc. Anyone with experience with those or have a rec for something similar?

I would also highly recommend giving a more traditional, single-eyelet unstructured moccasin a try, especially if there are any local makers near you. Theyre perfect with shorts ofc, but can also be used sort of like Belgians as an 'agressively casual' option, especially if you opt for a full deerskin sole. It's not the easiest thing to pull off and definitely depends on your personal vibe, but they can even work with tailoring in the right make.
