How fashion forward? What did you have in mind?I like toggle coats, although I think of them as a much more casual piece of outerwear. Somewhat of a different look. I like the dressiness of topcoats and overcoats. I have a navy Guards coat from Ralph Lauren. Thrifted fro something like $75. Made for Wilkes Bashford. It's really awesome, but doesn't work with casual clothing, so I thought about getting something that can be worn both ways.
The way I'm thinking about having the navy single breatsed top coat made, however, I don't think it can be worn with tailored clothing. I'm thinking of getting it made to look slightly more fashion forward, although I know that's kind of outside the scope of this thread.

No doubt that these were/are great coats - no pun intended - but can you also show some contemporary examples to illustrate your earlier critique?
Eidos, Luigi Bianchi Mantova, and Ring Jacket all have something very similar. I like the last one best though I'm not sure if it is fly front or not. And it is the least readily available. There are a couple of pictures of Alan from the Armoury wearing it, albeit in a color other than navy.Well, not zippered. Just your standard, set-in sleeve, navy, fly front, single breasted top coat, but with slightly narrower lapels, so that they can be worn up.
Don't have photos, but I'm sure you seen it plenty of times. Wearing a dressier top coat with a t-shirt and jeans is fairly common. I like the minimalistic look.
@Synthese posted a photo, IIRC, of himself in something similar. Tan Casentino coat with jeans and a t-shirt. But I can't find it right now.
Thanks C - certainly nice coats, and they indeed help explain your earlier critique. Seems like you're more of an old school kind of guy; nothing wrong with that.
I am not only old school, I am old.
I remember the Boer War- some great
styles came out of it.
