I'm thinking about the influence of skate culture on Hedi's work. Hedi's been tapping into skate culture for years now, and I think it is a strong influence on the silhouettes he would push.

Early 2010s were when skinny jeans were peaking in popularity. I think Dylan Rieder looks pretty cool skating in the slim cuts.

Dylan Rieder was a skater and a model and was known for his smart and clean style, which influenced a whole generation of skaters. His style on the skateboard was unique and very elegant. When the trend was wearing bulky and huge skate shoes, Dylan started to wear shoes which were a hybrid between a ballroom dance and a slip-on shoe. He started to skate wearing unbranded tees, unlike his colleagues who tended to show the t-shirts, which were tucked into cuffed trousers, and flaunt the brands which sponsored them.

There is an undeniably clean look that is similar to Hedi's Saint Laurent. I wonder if Hedi's Saint Laurent silhouette is a reaction to the times.

However, nowadays, skaters are wearing baggier pants.

This links to why Hedi released those skate pants for ss21. I wonder if Hedi's Celine is also a reaction to the times.

In a world where skinny pants are condemned, I wouldn't mind transitioning to fw19 and ss20's silhouette.







fw19 feels like it will turn into ss21 if you switch out the rangers for sneakers.

To be honest, I think in the big picture, skinny will always exist as a silhouette. More people will move away from skinny, and think oversized is more trendy and fashionable. However, someone truly stylish can practically wear anything and still be stylish. Someone who isn't stylish would look stupid in fashionable clothing. Style really comes from within, a mental state, rather than from the clothes you wear. Now, amongst a crowd of oversized silhouettes, I think you would end up sticking out.

I wouldn't be too surprised, and I would be quite curious to see how Hedi would interpret E-boys for Fall/Winter styling. Most of the time he reserves darker and dressier styles for FW shows and more colourful and playful styles for SS shows. Although, there is SS and FW, Hedi has said that nowadays you can pretty much wear one season all year round.

I think I come from a different perspective than a lot of Hedi's fans. The moment 2013 ended it was kind of "over" for me. Ss/Fw13 clicks so much with me that everything else kind of pales in comparison. I can't feel disappointed with whatever Hedi introduces next since I've been in a constant state of disappointment ever since 2013. It is still fun to keep up to date with what Hedi does though.

I think that when you go down the more voluminous pants route, your upper should also be voluminous for harmony and balance. I think this is why you see often the shoulders are oversized on the runway. Slightly relaxed to balance the relaxed pants silhouette.

But the exceptions work nicely too. The pants here feel voluminous but the shoulders are quite tight. Can be argued that the jacket is too small for the model's shoulders.

Another option, if the normal clean and neat interpretation of skinny is no longer acceptable, would be slim + overt stacking. This Dior Homme silhouette isn't bad and can start to feel fresh again after 20 years. It is a bit more relaxed but still maintains a somewhat edgy uptight energy.

All this said, I do look forward to see if my thoughts would ever change as society slowly shifts. Will my tastes shift with everyone else.

This is the type of fit that I’ve been going for lately, and reminds me of my Dior 17cm’s from way back when that I unfortunately sold, or SLP D01’s. Does Celine have any denim with a fit like this? I’m looking into the M_SK_004’s, but they may be quite tapered like D02’s.

I don't think there's anything similar to the D01 at Celine. The D01 cut is great and has always been underrated. I bought the Celine 100% cotton black raw slim jeans and they were a very strange fit. Tight in seat and thighs, considerably looser than the D01 in the calf, and then they tapered in several centimetres over the bottom few inches. Obviously I returned them.

Maybe look into APC petit standard variations. Probably the closest thing around.

Hedi fully supports the d01. Shot a campaign for them too.
