Got these for the s/o in the sale. Nice pastel pink, would be nice in summer. I like the little 'TRIOMPHE' nomenclature on the tongue.

Shame about the branding on the back though - doesn't look as polished as the website portrays them to be, like a seriously limp-wristed effort in embossing the CELINE logo .... she's not bothered as on this colour iteration it's not something you could pick up easily anyway, BUT I still find it depressing cos I know that if I ever ordered Triomphe sneakers for myself I couldn't get too excited as I know half the laborious QC effort/returning if not entirely perfect I'd have to carry out myself.

I.e. my default expectation is "there might be something wrong (misprint/seam alignment/defects in leather) so I better check properly" rather than "it's an £££ piece from the prestigious house of Celine, of course it'll be fine!".

Yeah that's awful and the pair on the website is undoubtedly cleaner. Unfortunately I can't compare to mine since my pair is the white pair with the leopard detailing and the Celine text is just black without being embossed. I will agree with the notion that the laces are definitely not as wide as your pair. Maybe that's a difference between the mens and womens pairs? Either that or mine are older and they changed the laces recently. Interesting either way.

I was thinking about the vision of Saint Laurent and Celine again, but this time specifically with the leather biker jackets. The more popular leather jackets for Saint Laurent are the L01 and the L17, and I'm using them to compare with the ss19 runway black leather biker jacket at Celine. At first glance they feel like they're similar leather biker jackets, but looking closer I feel like there are significant differences.

The Saint Laurent L01 and L17 have significantly chunkier zippers, and I feel it makes them look a bit more modern/experimental and edgy.

1607537058619.png

There is also an emphasis on straight lines and sharp right angles with the zipper placements.

The L01 has the perpendicular angle made between the vertical and horizontal zippers, and zippers + pocket. It gives an overall sharp, rigid and precise feeling to the jacket.

1607537189820.png

The L17 has the long zipper detail. Now this zipper isn't exactly straight and has a slight curve to it. This makes it less extreme. If the zipper were straight, it would give the jacket a very rigid feeling.
1607537263131.png

The Celine biker jacket has smaller zippers and the zippers aren't being placed or designed in a way to be as edgy. The zippers are all angled and there is no vertical zipper present in the front. The Celine jacket looks more classical in comparison to the Saint Laurent ones.

In general, I feel like the L17 and the Celine biker jacket looks more traditional than the L01. So this gives them more room for more styles. The L01 feels very boxed in for only high strung looks, and it looks off in more relaxed looks. The L17 looks good in a dressed up precise look on the runway, and looks nice dressed down for the campaign.

1607537765149.png

However, I feel it is off if you swap out the L17 for the L01 in this particular more casual style. The two vertical zippers throw me off.
1607537801537.png

I feel like the L01 looks more suited for more "precise" dark and edgy looks.
1607537877109.png

The Celine jacket, although less edgy than either L17 or L01, feels like it is able to be versatile enough to support both precise looks and more relaxed looks. The only thing it loses out on is the aggression of the chunkier zippers, and having less edge than the L01 brings.
1607538024644.png

The Celine biker jacket looks fantastic paired with a white dress shirt and tie. It just fits nicely because I think the jacket also leans classical.
1607538118157.png

The L17 doesn't look bad paired with a shirt and tie either, but it is just slightly more edgy than the Celine jacket.
1607538222610.png

The L01 paired with a white shirt and tie throws me off the most. I'm 90% it is because of how demanding the vertical zipper is. Perhaps it would work if the bottom was dressier..maybe dress boots + black skinny jeans. Or in a group of guys all wearing leather biker + white shirt + tie, the L01 is chosen to stand out/clash from the group by having a less classical zipper placement.

1607538375328.png

The L01 was for ss13, and the most casual I would go with it is a tight fitting short t-shirt.

Just ordered a pair of the jeans from Porter. They confirmed they're the looser cut style code ending NJ. I don't want to wait over a week again like my last two orders with the online store. I understand they're busy and I've had perfect customer service from them always so I'm not knocking them and usually I'd be happy to wait, I just want them sooner this time.

so the black skinny denim on website ending NJ should be a looser cut than the normal skinny?

It's looser than the black low waist skinny with code ending NF, which are very skinny. Washed models I've tried have also been pretty generous.

I spotted a short double breasted jacket called the David jacket

I wonder if this is an homage to David Bowie. He seemed to have worn double breasted jackets that were on the shorter side in length.

Shirts with subtle floral patterns are quite romantic and gothic. I can't imagine these necessarily fitting in with any of Hedi's previous seasons at Saint Laurent. Maybe fw16?

Floral shirts like that would fit right in with ss15. A shirt like that easily gives off a western vibe and could be easily paired with the looks from that season. I think the L01 is the classier jacket without the belt at the bottom or the zippers on the back. Imo belts on bikers always give them an edgier look hence Id choose the l00 from aw15 SLP or the Celine biker with no epaulets/belts from SS19 as the classiest

I find it interesting that they're highlighting the sneaker category on the webstore. Calling it New Celine Trainer.

Big fan of this look from the knee up. I'm not a fan of the pants and shoe interaction, it feels a bit messy, but not cool.

I feel like one way to offset the longer jackets is with cropped sleeves.

I don't remember if Hedi ever released leather trucker jackets at Saint Laurent. I remember the closest to it was denim jacket but leather sleeves for ss13.

Seems like this leather trucker jacket style is a big part of Hedi's vision for Celine

One of my favourite Celine jackets is the tweed aviator ones. It feels unique to Celine. I can't imagine it being part of Hedi's Saint Laurent. It reminds me of tweed blazers, and those give me Academic feelings that I don't think was an image being pushed at Saint Laurent.

There was a tweed blazer with elbow patches for fw13 though.

Ss13 did have this blazer with white piping that feels like a school uniform blazer.

Fellow Japanese Hedi fan nerding out about Hedi's iconic leather jackets from Dior Homme, Saint Laurent, and Celine.

I didn't catch everything, but it is interesting looking at the lack of perfecto jackets at Dior Homme. The Dior Homme jackets look the most experimental and feel like they were inspired by trucker jackets, maybe. Perfecto leather jackets are very American so it made sense for its introduction into Hedi's universe during his Saint Laurent era.

I also quite like his take on one of Hedi's personal uniform templates. Open jacket + unbuttoned dress shirt + t-shirt + skinny jeans + boots.

Hedi fan being grilled on which seasons certain Hedi pieces were released.

Interesting how a cardigan similar to the fw19 cardigan made a reappearance for ss21. Really cements the purpose of ss21 is to showcase how to wear pieces from previous seasons so it doesn't look too dressy for the streetwear customer.
