Ignoring the reality that clothes can be styled however you want to achieve whatever image you want to project, it is undeniable that Hedi and his team have been making a concerted effort to position Celine as a sophisticated classy luxury brand. This sophistication and class was designed to elevate this brand above Saint Laurent. Case in point would be Hedi collaborating with a classical violin musician, Daniel Lozakovich.
I cannot imagine Hedi's Saint Laurent collaborating with a classical violinist, but it all makes sense to me at Celine. Although the Jacnos were presented on the runway with cropped pants, seeing it worn with pants that have some stacking is not bad either. Ss19 and fw19 definitely are my favourite seasons. Even if it is all arbitrary and bullshit, classical music is the fanciest music genre. This was back in November 2019. I'm not surprised people were so shocked at ss21. To me, it makes sense for 2019 to focus on a more sophisticated approach to build some groundwork on what the Celine brand is, before using this reputation to sell more casual pieces that people actually want to buy. They want the feeling of French sophistication without necessarily wearing dressy pieces. If they started with ss21 for the first season, I can see it doing more harm than good.
