So, I copped the cropped flared striped trousers from the webstore (for $1200, real bargain), and thought I'd throw up some pics. This is the first item I've bought since the dancing kid collection. I've been jonesing to buy some Celine for a while now, and this is really all I've been able to find (apart from footwear). These are a size 50; I'm normally between a 31-32 in jeans, and am 5'11 (or almost 6'2 with two inch heels on).

These are mid rise I feel, so I'm not sure how I'd wear them. I've left the tags on in case you guys tell me they're a disaster and I need to return them. First two pics are with them slightly sagged, with the waist band being below the outer part of the pelvis (the hip bone?). Styled with 40 mm jacno, bed hair

Next, I'm wearing them above the hip bone (or whatever it's called), which I think is my "natural waist". Maybe like two inches below my belly button. Personally, I like this better, but I'd listen to opposing viewpoints.

With loose blouson

Honestly, I don't think these trousers fit you well. Jutted out pockets, and I don't really see the flare effect. Maybe it's because you're sagging them but I'd return and try a different size or brand. Husbands Paris is doing really nice flared trousers these days.

I haven't bought anything from Husbands personally (yet), but I agree what they've been putting out looks great and I've been watching the brand for a bit. I think the brand's offerings would work well with a Celine SS20/FW20 style.

Frankly it's insane to pay 1200$ for a trouser, for the same money you can easily get one made to measure and it may be a good thing for a flare one.

Yes, the pockets are definitely an issue, and probably the main reason I"ll end up returning them. There's zero sense in keeping a trouser that costs that much (perhaps the sentence should end here...) if they don't fit absolutely perfectly.

With regard to the flare, I actually like the Celine ones in this regard. I'm after a more subtle flare/bootcut, my favorite cuts currently being the slp d17 and the Raf Simons "slightly flared" trousers he's done a few times. I didn't like the Celine flared jeans from the first season, as the widening began way too high up the leg for my taste. I think Gucci offers a more traditional flare type trouser, and although they're not my thing, I always really like how they look on models.

Frankly, like I said, the main draw for the Celine ones was that I'm not seeing much of anything that has piqued my interest for quite a while here, and I'm reluctant to admit that I should probably just move on from Hedi Slijmane. Looking back over the Bauhaus collection, I'm not seeing much I'm into, although the overall look is a bit more in the direction of my aesthetic.

With regard to Husbands: this is defiantly a brand that has been on my radar for a while. I believe there was a thread started on them in teh SWD side of the forum a few years back. I'd be curious to know if any Slimane types have experimented with it at all. Made to measure might be a good option for me from Husbands.

I like them, especially with that red shirt. Looks very clean. Do I like them for that price though? I think that answer is obvious unfortunately.

wow is right!!!
so a basic pair of Celine denim is now the same price as their classic pant. WTF
the black Lou were $590 when first posted, now $890

I did scoop up those Kurt jeans I mentioned a while ago and luckily I did before the denim price increase. I've been wearing them a lot with some white Celine high tops. Went for a distressed pair because I missed wearing distressed jeans, good casual vibe. I find they don't work well with my boots selection because of the wider opening. They're a selvedge denim as well which is good if you're a denim nerd. But yeah, I bought them on a good sale and there's no way I'd spend 1100 USD on them. I've always really enjoyed Hedi's denim, but I can't deny it's getting ridiculous. I've been warming up to the Wesley jeans as well, but I think the warming up may stop with these prices.

Frankly, like I said, the main draw for the Celine ones was that I'm not seeing much of anything that has piqued my interest for quite a while here, and I'm reluctant to admit that I should probably just move on from Hedi Slijmane. I've been quite vocal about being in the same boat with Celine. Haven't looked at any of the later menswear collections more than once, although I still like the womenswear Celine puts out. I feel like the overall style of their womenswear, while not special, is very focused and well executed. Menswear on the other hand still seems all over the place.

I am the stereotype of this where, as a mid 20s guy living in a large city, I currently do not have a bedframe lol

(To be fair I've been on the hunt for one and other items to upgrade my apartment, but I find it hard to discover furniture designs that I actually like, while with clothing I know what I like and where to get it from)

Same here. That's a good point on knowing what you like in fashion vs furniture/home decor, because most of my items are just stuff I happen to have, not stuff I actually wanted and then went out and bought, like I do with clothes. But I'm currently looking for a new place, so clothing purchases are rare. Maybe afterwards home decor can become a new hobby so I can spend even more money on stuff I don't need?

I like those trousers.

Prices are definitely getting crazy these days, and resale is very weak, so I try to be careful about what I buy these days and stick to things I know I won't go off.

Anybody try the knit cashmere blend black triomphe hoodies? Guessing they're hugely oversized like the sequin one, and not in a particularly nice way. Cheers.

The gift that keeps that keeps on giving:

First, a bucket hat that protects your eyes from the sun, but at the same time stops your brain from overheating:

Then, a warming coat, whose frisky colour protects you from e.g getting run over by a car:

...and then you can top it off by challenging gender norms in this nifty mini skirt:

I'm going to show my age here, but that kilt reminds me of Jonathan Davis during the peak Korn days of what 1999?

I could 100% see that complete outfit above in certain ... markets, so, I expect it'll sell and continue to feed the trend. My sense is Celine filters in a few classics here and there to keep the stalwarts engaged but the revenue generators are new pieces, such as this, and especially women's fashion and handbags.

Things such as fragrance and now candles probably sell decently, but I imagine too add an overall allure and comprehensiveness to the house. When you read those descriptions you're transported to Hedi-whimsical zone and can forget some of the more garish elements.

I haven’t posted in this thread for a while, but I do check to see what’s going on from time to time out of some nostalgia. And since someone brought up Husbands I thought I would chime in.

I have completely moved on from Celine 100%, and have been enjoying my pieces from Husbands immensely. Maybe it was the drastic aesthetic change since SS21 (I have no interest in looking like a teenager on TikTok), or the whole Covid reset made me rethink where I'm putting my money (something about giving my hard earned money to a multi billion-euro conglomerate), or just wanting to support an enterprise where I can personally connect with the people involved (who are genuinely nice people to boot).

This is coming from somehow who is still a huge fan of Slimane's oeuvre, who's formative education in capital-F Fashion were the Dior Homme collections in the early aughts, and once had a closet full of Slimane-era Saint Laurent permanent collection pieces--ironic considering I've mostly sold them off as they felt quite dated.

Peak Celine for me are the 2020 collections, Spring-Summer especially as I managed to get an invite to the show and have fond memories the day. I also agree with many on here that the women's collections feel more desirable, but perhaps it's just to an older audience as I assume most of us are. These days I just create imaginary collections in my head that build upon the look introduced in Spring and Fall '20, using a mix of vintage (Wranglers and westernwear, 1960's and 70's pieces), accessories from heritage luxury houses (Hermes, Charvet, Cartier, ST Dupont, etc) and made-to-order tailoring from Husbands. Always with the flared trousers, which are fantastic.

I have kept all of my Saint Laurent Wyatt boots as I feel the shape is truly timeless, and I still love wearing my Celine Jacnos which I find work well with the Husbands and vintage pieces in my wardrobe. There are a couple recent Celine shoes that I quite liked, the steel-tipped cowboy boots being one, but I think I've reached the point of no return with the brand's menswear propositions.

They have not lost me completely as a customer however, because the fragrances are actually quite enjoyable and I hope the bags and leather goods continue to sell well just so they keep making the perfumes.

Are you that french guy who dresses like a cowboy on Instagram?

I love the idea that French Hedi fans could wear his Americana/Western-inspired items to cosplay as an American Cowboy and American Hedi fans could wear the more refined, clean-cut tailored pieces to cosplay as being French bourgeoisie.

Lol unfortunately no, but I do know who you are talking about.

I’m not French, but my wife is. And my Instagram doesn’t have any pictures of me, only my work.

Yes, I absolutely feel this... A lot of mature fashion people take up this position, I feel. Because they get exposed to how hard the conglomerates have made it for everyone and it actually stifles creativity. Someone starting out like Celine Vipiana today would have a way slimmer chance of succeeding...

The conglomerates are basically a monopoly because they have so much power. They're like the major record labels. Some great bands do get signed, etc. but they have to be really good to have creative control, and most starve. If Hedi did ever start his own brand, it'd be amazing if it was just niche and a few pieces here and there. Just like a passion project... No one wants to see another KARL LAGERFELD... But I guess if Hedi did this it'd be custom one-offs for celebrities... And therefore extremely expensive...

Yes, another Karl Lagerfeld wouldn’t work in today’s environment, too irreverent, and probably too smart!

I don’t know if it’s an echo-chamber effect, as we’ve discussed this before, but one would imagine HS would have enough caché and especially expert promotional skills with his photography and eloquent descriptions (probably need a copy writer to make them more palatable to us Americans who can’t bear to read more than a sentence or two) to launch his own brand. With TF being scooped up for a cool bill you’d wonder if the monetary motivation would be enough to move the needle. Obviously, HS is beyond cushy and comfortable right now, which for an artist, is usually time to make a change to stay iconoclastic.
