I’ve been following Hedis womenswear since 2013. He went from directly quoting looks from Courtney Love, Marianne Faithfull and Siouxsie Sioux at Saint Laurent to exact looks from Jane Birkin at Celine (SS/AW20) and now he is quoting directly from Kaia Gerber, Bella Hadid and Margaret Qualley. For example since SS21 up to Resort 22 he has used almost exact iterations of Kaia’s R13 boots, Bella’s green flannel shirt layering and pink fuzzy ugg slippers, and Margaret’s blundstones. With some 90s Princess Diana thrown in. He’s doing the same thing with different reference points, it just depends which reference points you prefer.
As others have mentioned Anthony’s work is entirely derivative of Hedi’s without the authenticity and deep understanding of the references that Hedi has. I always remember a quote I read somewhere about how Hedi’s girls were “misfits and outcasts who don’t give a f anymore” and Anthony's girls are “toys.”
