I was in the Whole Foods uptown on Columbus Ave getting a growler refill and asked about KBS. The 2 guys behind the counter had never heard of it, called back to the manager on the phone and his response was cryptic.

"We don't have any on the floor today"

Me - "You don't have any in stock, or you don't have any you'll sell me"

"We don't have any on the floor today"

This was going through the counter guy to the manager in back. I didn't really have an opportunity to push further. As this was happening a distributor walked up and asked to see the manager. He was directed to the loading dock. He over heard and mentioned that KBS was "tough to find. Only 120 cases were available for all of New York." I asked where else to look and he suggested what sounded like a grocery store on 118th or 119th. Not my part of town. I don't have time to go chasing beer so I left it at that.

Most stores didn't put it on the floor. Especially places like whole foods with lots of beer heads working there. Same happened here. Sold in house or to friends most likely. Sucks but that's how it goes.

I liked it. It was certainly big (11%) and rich with lots of chocolate up front but that is balanced by the dark espresso finish. I was afraid it was going to be too sweet but I think all elements were balanced enough to help prevent that.

Right now it's James Squire Sundowner or amber ale. I'm especially partial to a Little Creatures Pale Ale in the summertime.

Dogfish Head "Namaste." Good stuff, but not outstanding, and not super-high on my Dogfish list. Kinda disappointed, only because of the cost, but it's still very decent.

Would still prefer an Aprihop or Bell's Two-Hearted (my all purpose "go to" good beer)

Anyone who's interested - I just found a source for Cigar City Hunahpu Imperial Stout - $40 a bottle. The guy's only got a few cases but I don't suspect they'll sell out too quickly.

drank the Oak Aged Unearthly today. I think the Oak Aged Arrogant is better.
