i just had some ten fidy. the texture is like used motor oil, no hops to speak off, very malty, chocolatey, and i taste a lot of dark dried fruits.

also does temperature affect how much head forms? does tilting the glass help or hinder head formation?

The biggest control over head formation is a dry glass. If you want a bigger head, start with a dry glass and pour quickly at the start.

Any of you New Yorkers ever have a problem with the Whole Foods in Manhatten tell the Store Leader (manager) John that you know Tooch and he'll take care of any problems that you have.

    What location? Bowery Beer Room?

Speaking of that location... I was at a Stone Brewery beer tasting there last week. Total beer geek central.

I admit to not liking Stone beers as much as I used to. Still love the Imperial Russian Stout. Otherwise.... meh

Of course the people at Whole Foods - Columbus Ave have heard of KBS. They sell a lot of Founders beer at that location. In general.... the people at that store know what they are talking about. They were just bull$hitting you.

FWIW... get some Ten Fidy from that cooler near the cash register line. Look on the top right corner.

Like the Ten Fidy. I picked up a single $5 can last month, but it can't compete pricewise with Black Boss Porter. This was less than $2 for a 16 oz bottle in the same shop. Doesn't have the same depth, but it is a good beer.

I was in the Whole Foods uptown on Columbus Ave getting a growler refill and asked about KBS. The 2 guys behind the counter had never heard of it, called back to the manager on the phone and his response was cryptic.

"We don't have any on the floor today"

Me - "You don't have any in stock, or you don't have any you'll sell me"

"We don't have any on the floor today"

This was going through the counter guy to the manager in back. I didn't really have an opportunity to push further. As this was happening a distributor walked up and asked to see the manager. He was directed to the loading dock. He over heard and mentioned that KBS was "tough to find. Only 120 cases were available for all of New York." I asked where else to look and he suggested what sounded like a grocery store on 118th or 119th. Not my part of town. I don't have time to go chasing beer so I left it at that.

Sounds like a particular member's quest to find a green breast wallet

Looked that up. Far more exasperating than my half-hearted effort at picking up a barrel-aged stout.

My general attitude towards so called "grail beers" is if I can pick one up easily I will, but I won't go chasing around after them. I've been underwhelmed more often than not in the past.

    very tempting!

If that is 100% Barrel Aged Coton then you are in for an incredible beer! Most of that stuff in one of the pictures you have to be a Reserve Society member to even purchase the beers, you then have to either live in California or have a trustee pick it up and ship it to you. Their best stuff comes from the Reserve Society, their regular release stuff is just meh...

this time it was completely her fault. she was motoring a million miles an hour trying to do dishes and whacked it right on the counter when putting it in the dishwasher. somehow it was my fault for not doing it right away and leaving it in the sink.

How is the Mikkeller? I've been meaning to pick up some of the Beer Geek Breakfast. I've never tried a Chipotle Porter, always saw Rogue's, never was possessed to try it though. Full Sail Top Sail <> Full Sail Black Gold

yes hence why I thought it was worthy of posting here. but I must politefully disagree with the rest being meh (ok sorry but their berliner style weiss is hands down my favorite beer of all time. but simply put I find a much deeper complexity to their beer than anything else out there).

Anyways just got back from my corner bar and had a nice chat with the owner. Talking about how three floyds stock had been getting very spotty. He's stocked them the past 6/7 years and said he'll put in an order for 6 cases and be lucky if he gets one and that its getting so bad he's probably going to have to pull them entirely... also I wasn't aware that 2 brothers had its distribution in 7 states but due to demand they are down to 4, and also their orders are starting to get shorted as well.
