Pand, where are you getting all this awesome beer? I am slowly and reluctantly starting to get into the beer world. All I really know though is the shop I work at and the Binny's that used to be Sam's (RIP) on North&Clybourn.

I still smoke every now and then. But I don't smoke in my apartment, and after working 10 hours a day, I don't awnt to have to sit outside for another 90+ minutes for a stogie. I rock out a cigar or two every weekend though.

need to find this. also need to find barrel 4D, which is impossible. i feel like i'm bilbo baggins.

I have a bottle of Big John for you, so don't worry about it. I saw cases of this stuff in Madison and Minneapolis this past weekend. I also came across some cases of Hopslam on sale and a few other past New Glarus Unplugged releases that where sitting in the coolers at Steve's. You need to be finding my precious BA 4D, Bilbo Baggins!

Alrighty, here is a list of stores for you to check out:

    West Lakeview Liquors
Lush Wine & Spirits (3 locations)
Armanetti's on Grand & Western and Lincoln just south of Addison
    Noble Grape
    Binny's South Loop
    Warehouse Liquors
    Danny's on Western
    D&D
    Archer Liquors

If you can't find anything at any of these stores then you should just give up!

Interesting. I can hit up West Lakeview and Noble Grape on my way home. West Lakeview is like 5 blocks from where I work and NG 5 blocks from where I live.

Do these shops have staff that are willing to answer stupid questions from noobs? [IMG]

I was in CA, but only for 9 months. Iammatt told me to GTFO of his state so I did. Moved back here in May of 2010. Hopefully only here til June 2012.

Just had a Lagunitas Wilco Tango Foxtrot. Meh, probably my least favorite Lagunitas to date. Sad because I paired it with a Fuente Opus X.

    That's a ballin' cigar.

my cousin gave it to me for Christmas. For the first half it was the best cigar I've ever had. The second half was disappointing relatively.

Went into West Lakeview Liquors tonight after work. First off, cool little shop. Freakin' tiny. I thought the wine shop I work at was small but man this place is like a studio apartment. Anyway, went up to the guy working the counter, told him that I know a lot about wine and work at a wine shop but that my beer knowledge is equivalent to a kindergartener's, and that I wanted him to pick out 4 really well-made examples of classic styles, so that I could start to learn about beer. Told him I'd be back probably once a week to pick up 3-4 more, until I start to wrap my head around this.

So this is what he guided me toward:
a 750 of Vieille Provision Saison Dupont -said it was a classic farmhouse ale
a Westmalle Trappist Ale Trippel -said it was really great example of trippel, and some people say this brewery "made" the trippel style
A Brouwerij Fonteinen Oude Geuze - said this is a blend of different ages of lambic, blended then aged in oak for a year
and a Trappistes Rochefort 6 - said this is what's known as a dubbel, and I saw that there was a 6, 8, and a 10, but he said to start off with the 6.

This is kinda fun and exciting. I mean, my wine knowledge is nowhere near what it should be or what I hope it to be, but it's kind of fun to start learning about something brand new.

Drinking the saison now. Really nice. Bright golden yellow, cloudy from bottle conditioning. Aroma is yeasty and sharply fruity. Taste is slightly bitter and has citrus. Finish is long with some spice/pepper component. Daddy like.
