I figured someone should just go ahead and do it. The man is encyclopedic when it comes to knowledge of reclaiming items that were thought to be beyond redemption, IMHO.

I'll start.

I have a never worn pair of Sperry Topsider CVO's and they have some minor yellowing in different areas of the outsole. I have included a picture with the color adjusted to highlight the discoloration. It's actually about the same color as a yellow highlighter while the shoes are 'brand new' white. Soap and water have no effect.

Any suggestions on how to remove the yellow before I try something stupid like bleach or vinegar or oxy-clean?

Am I dreaming? Dig, noooooo....lulz.
I am but a shell of a man lower than the dust. Though I am honoured by your favourable perceptions of me I must concede.
There are many with far more knowledge than I..That said, I will try to suggest a few things:

First try a white eraser and see if that works


If that fails, try Varsol or odorless paint thinner on a terrycloth


if that fails you can try the ultimate weapon which would be Acetone, again on a terrycloth. Wear rubber gloves and work outdoors.

Nail Polish Remover is an alternative as it also acetone. do not use acetone if you have an open cut on your hand.
Wash amd moisturize your hands afer. Acetone is probably the most powerful thing in the arsenal.
It evaporates fast so work with deliberation but quickly. If the rubber becomes gummy after using the acetone, you can try rubbing some baby powder on the rubber.

I bought this fine fall/winter jacket two years ago and have worn it regularly since.
I'm very happy with the purchase, however on both cuffs, not only did the thread on the seam fray noticeably but also did the polyester right next to it discolour from black to grey on an area of about 2mm x 5mm. It's far from huge and no one except myself will ever notice it, I do however want to ask if there's a better way to fix this except with a pair of nail scissors and a black sharpie. The jacket upper is made from but the finest polyester so the usual procedure of removing fray yarn via a lighter does not sound like such a good idea.





The camera flash makes the whole sleeve look grey...

It really depends on your income. A lot of writers and people with money live in Park Slope, which is a lovely little neighborhood, and I'd like to live there myself if I can ever afford it. Brooklyn Heights is similar and also really wonderful, and in the winter in the snow if you squint the right way it looks like Paris.

Williamsburg is now almost hipster-less now and is exceedingly trendy and you can find nice big apartments there for a lot more money than the other places. Stay out of Bushwick.
