That's Holger. He posts on SZ sometimes.

EDIT: Holger's posts on SZ look similar in shape and beard-structure. But Uzairh says it's not Holger, and Uzairh is an honorable man.

these are different than the ones I posted in the recent purchases thread (which I believe are the same as the ones you'd posted here): [IMG] these are calf with an aluminum layer, while the above are kangaroo--texture looks pretty different as well, which I can't imagine is do solely to lighting. design looks similar though

/\ Glad to see Archive's actual web store up... I know they had been working on it for a while and were planning a SS 2014 launch!

Wonderful store and people there; someone buy those MA+!

I think the guy who field-stripped his Alden boots did it for the purpose of self-edification, and not to achieve a weathered look. Here's a pic of the boot post-stripping, with a coat of Saphir Reno:

    Much better, yeah?

I do realize that the specific finish of Horween cordovan isn't especially relevant for a lot of the brands discussed here, but it's a safe bet that most high-gloss hi-fashunz shoes owe their shine to a combination of leather correction and an acrylic wax finish. Scuffs on shoes like that never go away, and can't be polished out. Which is a big reason why I like my shoe leather oily and grainy, rather than glossy and near-perfect. I'm too inattentive to wear the latter.
