1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

what do you mean by "they just took off the sole?"

So if they did not remove any layers of leather in the heel, the stance of the boot is now different because of the added height of the rubber heel.

what's wrong with wearing a boots without vibram added? I think you can do it in LA or just don't wear the boots in bad weather.

I am in Chicago. I`d like to wear my boots all year long.

I wore my Alden one winter without vibrams and the big chunks of salt ate away at the sole

okay let me back up. the heel had a rubber cap on it. it covered the entire area of the heel and was nailed down. that's how they came. he took that off. the rubber. i'm assuming he just had his guy pull it off somehow before taking the nails out and then putting the replacement rubber on the bare leather heel. the replacement heel cap was essentially identical to the rubber they came with, including thickness. the heels looked exactly like they did when new, only no nails.

i am so glad to not be living anywhere near salted streets, stuff is death for shoes.

I'll probably just send mine to Willies and have them add a 6mm heel and half sole.

tried on a pair of black guidi 995 in horse leather- my only hesitation right away was how shiny they looked.

anyone have experience with how guidi's horse leather ages (specifically black)?
can i reasonably expect a nice duller finish with use and wear? or is horse leather just inherently shiny?

I don't recall the horse looks particular shiny. However the 995 Donkey looks very shiny.

Yeah I don't think horse is shiny but donkey does but it also shows off the variations of color that Guidi leather has.

Jesse is very cool and nice. Creative too if you have a special request. Small cowboy store is how I describe the setting. Small parking lot too to keep in mind

Can anyone tell me what that metal piece in the sole is called? I read it a while ago but I forgot and it's bugging me. Thanks!

If you're in Chicago go to Gus Shoe Repair or Leo's Shoe Repair.
I have taken a pair of Guidi 995s for full sole replacement, added vibrams and fixed a deep scratch on the boots all for $65.
Took a pair of Wings and Horns to get same thing done as well.
Gus charges a bit more, took some Wang boots there to get full sole and heel repaired and they charged about $80 or so.
Both places are great quality. I go to Leo's on the southside more, my grandma lives around there so that probably adds to it ha.
