Is it missing the soul because it's easy to get, or is there something else?
missing soul as in original designers and crew are not involved, missing the passion of the original carpe diem crew
They are about the same quality. At that level, Raccagni, Riri, YKK Excella, it really comes down to a matter of personal tastes. There are some differences - the teeth on the Excellas I find extremely durable, for example. But you'd be nitpicking to really find any quality differences between them. They are also the same style.
We already know that the original designers aren't involved, but is it just a stipulation from that fact that there's some "soul" missing, or is there actually something you can point to in a pair of the old shoes and say "look, this isn't in the new stuff"? If the first thing someone says after "soul's missing" is something about how invested you had to be in tracking the stuff down before because it was so hard to find, or whatever, then it seems like the primary driver of the judgment is romanticization.
I wouldn't be able to tell you that having never owned other CDiem.
FWIW i don't think 99.9% of the population who buy this stuff will be able to tell the difference between the og stuff and re-issues.
And yes- I've many of hours tracking down OG Cdiem, so there is quite bit of romanticization here but still I support the AW17 stuff... can't say the same about SS18 from the rumors floating around.
For you guys in Vienna....
For this, I use the Chinese Box test. If you got these out of a box, and did not know about any of the drama, could you tell?
Like @LA Guy said, YKK Excella is durable and good enough for most projects. I've experienced Raccagni and to be frank, they're very similar to RiRi, except that RiRi offers more varieties, including precious metal finishes. Some people may tell you RiRi is smoother but it depends on many things, such as the finish of the zipper. You can do the same with YKK by adding oil to it.
I've never had any issues with Ykk so I mildly favor them.
If the resident Carpe Diem expert says the above then I'm at ease.
hey, the leather they are using is not from guidi, at least for the last two seasons. did a store or someone officially involved in the project tell you it was?
could of sworn i read that the leather was sourced from guidi, i can check with PNP if you like to get clarification
Junhashimotonagoya said it was waxed Horween for horse on one instagram post, and the calf leather is from Tempesti tannery according to fascinate. I don't know if any of those statements is actually true though.
