Got a cool white Margiela belt for basically the cost of shipping. When it arrived I realized why it was so marked down, seller had written the wrong size and not mentioned two holes in the belt. Wasn't worth the trouble to return so it sat in my closet for a bit. The metal end made it impossible to have it recut by a cobbler, but after some thinking I came up with a decent solution. Cut the last 5" including the closure prong off, then took out like 8 inches, finally reatchaed the closure with Chicago screws. For the holes I used two vintage coin Conchos, Buffalo nickel and a 2 1/2 cent coin. I think the coins actually fit the style and brand well, id guess they were there originally if I just found it this way. Happy with the results, which is rare for my diy projects!

Thrifted a belt with this silver buckle & keeper. Remade it in my size with some leftover waxy matte black SB Foot leather.

Dyed React 55s with a mixture of iDye Poly, water & acetone, then a matte Krylon finish. They didn't turn out perfect, but it was a fun experience for a pair of beaters.

How many times have we gessoed shoes in this thread? The midsoles were almost completely clean from the previous owner. Redid them with tinted gesso, wiped some off with acetone & a cotton ball, then sprayed a matte Krylon finish.

^Tough act to follow!

I stitched up the elbow of an old flannel shirt that I had thrifted back in the late 80s. Used it a lot in high school and college.

Anyone know a good source for shirt snaps? I have a couple of old Wrangler shirts with snaps, and the cuffs are so wide (around) that I rarely wear the shirts. So I decided to snip off the male end of the snaps with wire cutters and take the shirts to a tailor to have the cuff narrowed an inch. Now I'm looking for new snaps to attach. I'd thought I might have some that fit, but I've only got one left. It's an old DOT snap. The originals on the shirts were made by Klikit. A newer Wrangler shirt that I have has Gripper snaps by Scovill. Both sets are compatible.

I couldn't find a good source for Klikit, which seems to have gone out of business, or Scoville, which seems to do wholesale. Etsy has some old snap sets by Scoville, but they're the ring kind, that attach with teeth, whereas I want the post kind. Ideally I'd like a set with a few options. I'm not sure what size they are, but I'm guessing 10-12 mm.

I've just gone to stone mountain fabrics in Berkeley (I guess joanns will work too) with the snap I want to replace, and picked out a set that matches. I've also replaced one or two white snaps with black snaps, and actually dig the vibe.

Are there any other ways to dye things besides using hot water? RIT and other dyes use hot water but I don't want the item to shrink.

Just make the water less hot, you’ll be fine. The hot water helps to open up the fibres but it works in warm too.
