I've been looking at the new PTBs in brown suede from Leather Soul:

    http://www.leathersoulhawaii.com/category/brands/alden/

I think I like these, but the heel seems to be different from the other PTBs I've seen, with the welt pulled in. (I'm not up on my shoe terminology). Is this because of the double waterlock sole?

This is known as a "close heel welt." It's a stylistic choice that some find makes for a sleeker, dressier shoe. This thread from AAAC should help. Tom from Leather Soul tackles the question himself.

Thanks for the explanation and for the link. This helps. I knew that the term was something like that.

Now I'll just have to decide if I like them that way. I do think it makes them dressier. But I wonder how well it works with the Barrie last, which is not the sleekest in the Alden line.

Really? I have a pair (one of my favorites BTW) that I got from Alden SF and they are on the Aberdeen last.

OK, so how did I end up with a picture of an American flag and bunch of thread as an avatar? I like the flag as much as the next guy but I'm not sure that would be my choice of pics.

anyone who was without an avatar in the old sf was randomly assigned one for SF 2.0.

Horsehide, maybe they think you're a seamstress.
