1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

    Awesome.

The only ones I'd really consider are the cap toe cordovan boots... $465 for shell boots is a steal... hmmm... weird sizing, though. Would 8H be 8.5?

I just ordered the Snuff LWBs. They are back ordered until 2/12 though, so I may cancel it. Hoping to find a better option for me in the near term but if not, my spring shoes are all set!

If anyone's thinking of ordering a pair, I'd act soon. I can't imagine the discount is *truly* meant to apply to 3rd party stuff. It almost never is.

Those black cordo wingtip boots are awfully tempting for $469 but I think I'll hold off.

Great deal. Too bad most of what Jcrew offers is on a Barrie last. And only come in D widths. The black shell wt boot looks great

Yup, was very tempted to make a 4:30 AM buy, just doesn't make sense given that they have speedhooks and leather soles. The cost of replacing those with comando would just about cancel any advantage out. Also too bad about limited lasts/ widths. ALSO too bad that if people keep buying Aldens at JC and other huge retailers, it's likely QC will continue to be what it is. Feeding the beast....

    Hey guys,

Are there any specific type of Alden's that you would recommend would could go with both a gray interview suit, as well as could be worn casually? Longwings? PTB? I'd like to pick up a pair of Alden's for my interview suit, but don't really have the cash to shell out for something that expensive if I can't get some additional use out of it.

First lets define versatile. To me, versatile means sleek enough to be worn with a slim gray or navy suit and also casual enough to be worn with some jeans or chinos. Automatically I eliminate Barrie last and a 360 degree welt. Style wise, I think a captoe is very versatile and the grant last is both casual and dressy. I prefer boots so I my choice would be the black sheel or #8 captoe boot on the grant last. http://www.theshoemart.com/alden-me...s-4065_ald_m_cap_toe_boot_shell_cordovan.html

The most important consideration, imo is the last and welt. Stay away from Barrie and 360 degree and youll more than likely find what you are looking for.

A calfskin boot may be just as nice. I just happen to have (had :/) shell cordovan. Point is flat welt, sleek last (Plaza, Grant, Aberdeen), and eyelets make for a very versatile boot

When you send your Alden's in for recrafting can you have them crafted to/on a different last? (ie Trubalance to Barrie?)

Also - will Alden putt any sole type you request on the boot? (ie put a sole on similar to the natural edge trim we see on many of the Leather Soul make ups?)

I agree, your boot looks great. It reminds me of a Trickers boot I own that I own and I love it
