Are the ones of the bottom right the burnished tan Barrie last shoes Winn Perry has up now? They were out of my size.

Those are the #4 shell PTB from Leather Soul.

Zippyh is correct those are the shell #4 4x4's otherwise known as the Nassau. That makeup from Winn Perry is really nice. I just ordered the Indy shoe from WP…too bad about WP they have some sweet Alden makeups.

    Folks,

Prepare for even higher prices in the near term. Horween has announced price increases today on their blog:

    http://horween.wordpress.com/2011/03...of-the-market/

This doesn't necessarily mean another price increase within the year. I would imagine that the annual 5% increase takes into consideration the rising costs of raw materials, as well as labor cost increases. I would imagine Horween lets their major purchasers know these things before the public knows about them.

    Just speculating though.

Looks great! Maybe if you get some more cash you can buy the other shoe in each of those styles.[IMG]

If you read the blog carefully, the important quote is as follows:

"Accordingly, leather orders that are not covered by existing blanket orders will be priced at the date of the sale to reflect the present days market. It is our fondest hope that the market will regain some sanity. "

My educated guess is that Alden certainly issues blanket POs to cover future purchases, and they will be unaffected by this increase.

Im wanting a more rugged looking boot thats not an indy. I have a pair of them already and i am wanting a smooth toe. I've somewhat narrowed my choices down to the Winn Perry "little tanks" in tobacco reverse chamois, The context roy roughout, and jcrews snuff suede boot. Whats everybodies opinions on these 3. I like the idea of the roughout suede and being able to do damn near anything in them but what about the regular snuff suede. How does it take to rain? I like the lighter shade of brown on the snuffs as too the darker roughouts. Ohio gets dumped on a lot from March through May so these boots will see a lot of wet. I like the reverse goodyear welt of the Roys. What is everybody elses opinions on the 3? and is there any other options similar?

Im wearing the "little tanks" in earth reverse chamois right now. It looks like a dark charcoal, almost black. They get more wear than most of my boots because they match everything and are good in rain. The roy and jcrew are both on trubalance and will look bulkier, maybe that means more rugged to you. The little tanks on barrie are a nice mix of rugged with a slimmer profile. The leather tip on the crepe sole is supposed to get messed up if it gets wet too much but mine still looks good. Since all three are on crepe sole I guess it wouldn't matter. The roughout leather will be better than snuff suede in rain. roughout roy and little tanks are the same boot, just different last/ shape.
I've had the little tanks in tobacco for a couple of weeks and am quite happy with them. Definitely a slimmer profile, casual boot -- if you only see the lower portion, they might be mistaken for a pair of dirty/suede bucks. Not sure if that fits your definition of rugged.

Plus, they appear slightly smaller than other Barrie last shoes. Side-by-side comparisons prove they're not -- but somehow the little tanks look smaller on my foot than, say, my PTBs (perhaps it's the crepe sole/flat welt versus a leather sole/reverse welt?).

Haven't worn them much in the rain yet but I'm told the reverse chamois handles it well. I really like the plantation crepe sole -- it's comfortable, it's quiet indoors (no 'squeeking' on polished floors - malls, lobbies, etc) and the leather toes keep you from tripping on carpeted surfaces (you can read previous posts about how durable the toe is/is not for rainy weather).

Apparently the tobacco lightens up as the oil wears off. You simply add more oil to suit your taste & for conditioning/waterproofing. "Earth" is dark brown but I agree with lambchop -- in person it looks like a charcoal black.

They're a great looking boot and very comfortable. They really flex with your foot in a way that makes them feel very un-boot-like. I like mine enough so far that I would consider another pair of Aldens in reverse chamois, probably in Earth.
