Im wanting a more rugged looking boot thats not an indy. I have a pair of them already and i am wanting a smooth toe. I've somewhat narrowed my choices down to the Winn Perry "little tanks" in tobacco reverse chamois, The context roy roughout, and jcrews snuff suede boot. Whats everybodies opinions on these 3. I like the idea of the roughout suede and being able to do damn near anything in them but what about the regular snuff suede. How does it take to rain? I like the lighter shade of brown on the snuffs as too the darker roughouts. Ohio gets dumped on a lot from March through May so these boots will see a lot of wet. I like the reverse goodyear welt of the Roys. What is everybody elses opinions on the 3? and is there any other options similar?

What about the Wolerine 1000 mile?

I personally don't like natural Chromexcel, it looks too much like human skin or something. [IMG]

    Alden online shop looks good!!
I see what you mean! They re-designed their site and it's certainly an improvement: http://aldenshop.com/

How come this place doesn't do special makeups like others? Is it because they are an "official" retailer and only order stock items?

Im wearing the "little tanks" in earth reverse chamois right now. It looks like a dark charcoal, almost black. They get more wear than most of my boots because they match everything and are good in rain. The roy and jcrew are both on trubalance and will look bulkier, maybe that means more rugged to you. The little tanks on barrie are a nice mix of rugged with a slimmer profile. The leather tip on the crepe sole is supposed to get messed up if it gets wet too much but mine still looks good. Since all three are on crepe sole I guess it wouldn't matter. The roughout leather will be better than snuff suede in rain. roughout roy and little tanks are the same boot, just different last/ shape.

    Probably.

The made to order stuff goes from Alden to whomever does the order. I'm not sure they want to also sell those and compete with their retail partner.

Wore my tan suede unlined chukkas today for the first time. It was a B&S pickup. I went through two sizes from Shoemart that didn't work. I'm a solid 10D in Barrie last. First tried 10D in this (Leydon), too tight. Then tried 10.5D, STILL too tight at the widest part of the foot in front. Then found a new 10E on B&S and it is much better. Very comfortable, the only issue is that because it is unlined, some of the stitching is exposed on the inside and I can feel it when I walk. Anyone else notice this? Particularly on the front instep area. I feel like if I cover it with moleskin or something it would help a lot.

They indeed do makeups, but usually they are more conservative. Just call the store and talk to them. I ordered my first aldens (#8 PTB) from them years and years ago.
