Just ordered first pair of Aldens. Snuff Suede Perforated Captoe boots. Can't wait to have them. Being in Australia is annoying in the fact that I have to send them to a forwarder.
Congrats! I know that feel, have to forward everything to Europe.

Understood. I meant, when mdubs says

The single oil soaked sole is known as the "flex sole" or typically called the "flex welt".

Does he mean that flex welt is a (1) single leather sole, which is soaked in oil, or a (2) leather sole which is soaked in oil once?

Similarly, when he says

The double oil soaked sole is known as the "double Waterlock" sole.

Does he mean that double waterlock is a (1) double leather sole, which is soaked in oil, or a (2) leather sole which is soaked in oil twice?

This may be obvious to others, but I've never known the difference between the two and am taking this opportunity to figure it out once and for all.

there in simplistic terms

I would add:

A flex sole is a single leather sole soaked in oil. A double waterlock sole is a flex sole (i.e., single leather sole soaked in oil) plus the addition of a regular leather (i.e., non-oil soaked) midsole.

Your not kidding. Just spent 30 minutes discussing mensware and shoes here in the Engineering dept.(extremely casual) Only since I noticed a new pair from a colleague. Only because the old pair was worn every day. Then got into a discussion on what constitutes a high price when a female coworker came in. $100-150 seemed pretty high. Then I piped in.... Why is it not time to leave yet. I have a shoe box waiting on the porch!

I haven't seen any other brown CXL tankers. I don't think I've ever seen a #8 CXL Alden. Yet.
Thanks for the confirmation. I guess this means I need some type of miracle to get the boots. I need a C and it's so hard to an LS pre-order.

Gorgeous! What size? (I'm hoping not 8.5Ds >_>)

They are a 7.5D

I sized the same but the van is much more snug, I wear my LHS sockless though. If Barrie is tight or you plan on wearing socks you might consider sizing up.

Gorgeous..like the blucher better!

Same here, I think the style works better more my wardrobe. The McAllister is a fantastic shortwing though and I prefer it to the Alden shortwing.

Received my Alden/J Crew Cap toe boots today after selling and essentially trading in my similar Allen Edmonds Cordovan boot. Really worth the hassle and wait, love these boots. Classically styled, just enough style and comfortable from first try on.

I think I am in love, second pair of Alden's, surely not my last!
