I believe the #8 Indy is a regularly stocked item at LS (i.e. it gets reordered). Not sure if they carry the 4060 (Grant last captoe). Personally, I think the #8 Plaza last captoe that LS carries is stunning and more attractive than the 4060. Aries83 has a fine example of the #8 Plaza captoe [IMG] It should also be noted that while other outfits offer a variation of the Indy boot, there are slight differences - mainly in the welt. The J Gilbert version has a regular welt (close heel?), and the Shoemart version has a 360 degree reverse welt (and all eyelets), whereas the LS version has the reverse welt and close heel like the original 405. If you're worried about having too much contrast, that is easy enough to solve. Take some dirt and rub it into the mocc toe stitching where you find it too bright. Eventually the stitching darkens with dirt, conditioner, polish, etc. so I wouldn't worry about them staying white for too long. In fact, many people don't like the contrast stitching and applying brown polish to match the leather is one of the first things they do. If the boots fit you well and you like the styling of them, I see no reason to exchange them. Just enjoy and wear those boots for many years to come.
Thanks for the informative post (spoiler'ed because it's long). It's a shame that more #8 boots are not done with nine eyelets like the Barrie wingtip boots recently at LS and Epaulet's Brixton boots. I have a pair of 403s and appreciate the look, but overall I thinks speed hooks really can ruin the look of a nicer boot, especially non-Trubalance boots and/or shell boots. (Yes I realize that the #8 officer's boot at LS has nine eyelets but the captoe brogue boot is not a style I can get into.) Have always wanted a Grant or Barrie #8 plain toe boot with nine eyelets... Watching for that like a shark.
I actually find [the Grant last] TTS. I know so size down 1/2 size but I found that didn't work for me. Perhaps because my feet are slightly wide. It could also be that I wear thicker socks with the boot which offsets the 1/2 size. Are you looking at a particular boot / shoe? FWIW, I also have the BBBF Longwing which is on the Grant last and I find that TTS as well.
I'm 10D in Barrie and Trubalance, and therefore would be 10.5D in Grant, correct? That's assuming only D widths are offered, which is true in most cases.

Alden 4x4 Seconds on eBay So somebody grabbed a pretty unique pair of seconds - the 4x4s that Tom made up. I'm not sure what this guy paid for them but it looks like he's anticipating a nice profit. http://cgi.ebay.com/Alden-4-Shell-Co...item45f7f94ac6
These are probably from shoemart. I picked up the same pair from them in 9.5d. When I inquired about them, they only had 9 and 9.5 in stock. Probably all gone now.

I am more in love with the NST Ravello boots he has for sale. Stunning combo.

Natural chromexcel plain toe boots today. I've been wearing the hell out of these things. Super comfortable and I dig the double leather waterloc sole for foul weather. Big fan.

Should've picked up both - at these prices you could have sold one pair and the other pair would be free! I'm happy that I bought mine retail from LS - seems cheap now!

Let us know what you think of the Brown CXL PTBs from Winn Perry. They look nice on their website....

Does anyone know if Alden ever does any MTO stuff? I missed out on the pre-order of the Epaulet x Alden black suede chukkas and I've been looking for this EXACT styling: [IMG] But I normally wear 7D AEs and the remaining stock at Epaulet starts at 8.5 (barrie last nonetheless) [IMG] Or if anyone knows of a similar style from other makers, please let me know. Pretty much looking for the combination of black suede/nubuck, unstructured toe, un-dyed stacked heels.

I would just wait for Epaulet to restock (not sure if they will but I'm sure they'll let you know if you ask). I discussed doing a MTO shoe with one of the salesman at the Alden shop on Madison ave in NYC sometime last year, it was for a #8 shell cordovan boot, and with the all the charges and taxes it would have came out to close to $900 with a 6-12 month wait. Even though it will be less for the suede chukkas, it will probably be at least be $500 and a big hassle and wait. Save your money, have some patience, and just be updated with the new offerings from Leather Soul, Leffot, Epaulet, etc.

Tonight went out for some sushi and spilled spicy mayo on my new (worn 4 times) Ravello boots from Shoe Mart. Wiped it off within a few seconds, but it was too late. . .the oil must have soaked in enough and now one boot has dark spotty areas. [IMG] Anyone know what can be done if anything? They are basically ruined!

No way are they ruined! You could wait to see whether the stain lightens in time and with wear. It probably will. You could treat your boots as boots and plow forth, come what may (think character). You could wipe them both down in some Neat's Foot Oil and even them out. Or you could contact Alden and see what they recommend. Don't sweat it too much.

Yeah, I am starting to feel better about it, but I was definitely pissed as hell (especially since I was the one that spilled). Probably will just do what you mentioned and just "plow forth". Guess I don't have to baby them anymore, lol. . .hopefully the spots will blend with some time and patina.

After seeing that there are a couple of bids on those 9Ds, perhaps I should have. However, 9.5 is my size, and they are a welcomed addition. While they are similiar in color to Ravello, the style and color are different enough to appreciate both.

Does this look normal? looks like the stitches are coming out from the inner sole exposing a thin layer of plastic film. I emailed alden and they have yet to respond.

better you spilled it than someone else... i searched for cleaning oil off cordovan cause i was feeling your pain and came up empty. have you tried the regular steps, brushing etc... if your still bummed about it, in addition to calling alden, call horween too. i;m sure that it will all work itself out with some regular wearing and soon you won;t even notice it. i know it;s a drag, but try to feel better!
