It was a good Alden day for me. Picked up the Unionmade Kirkwood Cap Toe Boots in Color 8 with Commando soles (Barrie Last) and the Moulded Shoe Brown Suede PCT Boots on the Modified Last with Leather soles.

Honestly the Modified Last fits so much better than the barrie and I almost like the boot itself better than shell.

The 9.5D fits perfectly in suede on the Modified. The 9.5D on the Barrie fits but doesnt hug the whole foot as much without boot socks. I almost would get a 9.5C. To be fair, shell is more rigid material.

What should I use to protect the suede boots? Is something like Kiwi suede waterproofer/protectant fine?
Nice boots. Love the Suede. For high quality suede boots I always go with Saphir Super Invulner. Best stuff on the market IMO.

Congrats to you too brother! Will let you know as I need to make my decision by tomorrow. For some reason I DO think that they have received more sizes. If we were #8/9 on the list...what are the chances of so many size 9 returns.
I'm 100% with you on big attraction to 270 welt. I think it's my favourite. I'm having very hard time letting go my brand new #8 Alden x JCrew PCT boots.

congrats on the WT pre-order. these are mint!
these are sleek looking, at one point I'll get black shell boots as well. Looks perfect.
It's a conspiracy! What if there were only 3-4 people on the list, but you were told you were #8/9 to make it seem like these are in really high demand.
Ooooor, we just about reached the breaking point where people will not pay more than X amount of dollars for a pair of Aldens, no matter how rare the color is.

Steel,
Congrats! I'm with you today, brother. I also got an e-mail this afternoon from DC stating that they had a pair of cigar cap toes on hold for me.

I'm a 9D too, paid immediately. I know for a fact that I was #8 on the 9D wait list. Wonder if they received a few extra pairs from the factory? I don't know if that has ever happened before. Just a guess. That, or enough people have passed or sent them back to DC.

Let me know how they look. Mine should be here by the end of the week and I'll post pics over the weekend. Hoping they are in decent shape with no "self-fixing" rips or tears... Have a great evening, gents.

I would guess not all of them.

I returned mine (9.5) last week. Couldn't justify another pair of dark brown captoe boots (already own two pairs), and the Grant is not the best fit for me. They were in good condition - a few markings on the edging but not a big deal at all. In reading thru this thread, it appears mine have already been spoken for.

What a day gentlemen,

I'm up for cigar captoes in my size. Was either #6 or #7 on the list. After all the talk of defects that we had today, I asked for the inspection and awaiting the results

Might just pass it down to the next person in line since I have unexpected purchase to make.

I was told last Tue that there were two 9.5 cigar boots still unclaimed but they wanted to wait a week before giving me a shot at them. Only 4 pairs were made in that size. I was #6. Curiously, I got a call last Wed, the same day sevenfoldtieguy (sftg) returned his pair in the same size. I might very well have received his returned pair, or the unclaimed pair, don't really know. It seems they did go down the list this time. Wonder if they read all the negative feedback here about screwing up their orders in the past. Steel and ironclad, these boots are the perfect cigar color we see here often. You won't regret your purchase. With commando soles, these will get max use for me and will be for the long haul. Thanks everyone who posted here about this order. Without that I would've never got on the list in the first place. And thanks sftg as well.

Keep the jcrew PCT. You know you'll regret returning them. Ok back to hockey.

Quote:They must be using the British convention for width measurements for some reason. In which case, E is really D, and EE is really E.

It doesn't make sense that they would only carry wide and super wide widths in a last that is already impossibly wide for many consumers.
Sorry, I meant that, aside from D, they carry those widths, too.

MrDV and Mdubs,
Be careful out in San Diego with that raging wildfire. Obviously the safety of you and your families comes first, but I don't want that nasty fire to destroy two of the nicest Alden collections in the world! Stay safe!!
