The 993 (black shell mono saddle) is a seldom mentioned - almost never seen (at least on the thread) - stock model. It and the 994 are probably the sleekest Barrie models Alden makes (flat welt, 270 welt, single leather). When I wear mine (993 and 994) I many times get favorable comments.

I've actually been wondering about the black mono saddle as a dress shoe since it's so subdued. Thoughts?

It can be worn as a dress shoe given its monochromatic design.
It can be worn as a more casual shoe given the fact it is a saddle shoe.
The picture on TSM's website is horribel of the 993. Believe me - it is as shiny as Alden's other black shell models.

Great, thanks. I've been debating between that and the color 8 model for a while now. I should just bite the bullet.

I actually just received the 11D last week. Unfortunately it's a hair too short and I may have to sell. The cigar is beautiful, though, and I only wish they had an 11.5.
Sorry to hear that...although, I won't lie--I'm looking forward to seeing the 11D hit the marketplace :)

The brooks belt is made by Alden it is the same color
U sure? I think they are actually made in Canada.

I don't think Alden ever made belts in house. FWIW, even my Alden branded shell belts don't match my Alden shoes very well, but good enough. (Barely)

I think that's the case. I forgot the factory name but I believe they are based in Montreal. I have BB cordovan burgundy belt and it's very close to Alden #8.

I agree...I don't think the BB belt is made by Alden. I own the BB, Rancourt, AE, and Alden in #8 or burgundy. I think the BB is a good belt, specially if you buy it on sale at 25-30% off. It is made in Canada. The Alden belt is by far the most robust, Rancourt #2, and BB and AE a tie. I wear the BB all the time with Alden #8. None f my belts are an exact match and I don't want them to be.

See Ya,
Steve

If this is important to anyone, I'm pretty sure BB wallets that are made of shell are not made of Horween shell, so the belts may not be either. (Apologies if this is pushing the thread a little too far afield.)

BB cordovan belts are not made by Alden.
I am 100% certain of it. I have asked Alden directly.
