1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

I typically use Saphir Renovateur, but there are a number of great conditioners out there. Less is always more when it comes to shell. A good wipe-down with a damp cloth and some brushing is all it really needs most of the time. Less polish lets the natural beauty of shell shine through.

This is the one that Alden makes for BB. Their website describes it as brown suede, but it is a little lighter than chocolate and slightly darker than snuff (closer to snuff). I highly recommend them.

Ok thanks! I just ordered some! I bought the color 8 boots used and they hadn't had any care in a while so I'm trying to bring them back to their original glory...

Cool! Post up some pictures and I'm sure others can give you some advice if there are specific trouble spots with the boots. Otherwise, just give them a really good wipe to try to remove any caked on polish or wax. Then brush like hell. I've found that 90% of my scuffs have been corrected by doing these things.

Both of those are excellent examples of Whiskey shell.

Here are the boots before I gave them some polish and brushing:

I like the shine but I just want the natural beauty of the color 8 to show through. I'm going to try some reno and then neutral polish.

DC Cigar Captoe boots, some pants fresh out of the suitcase and the beginnings of the rain.

I'm sure you'll get another shot. $455 is a pretty good price for a rare shoe. The shoes weren't in bad shape but the rolls probably turned some people away.

PCT Boots in Snuff Suede from TSM. I've been on a big suede kick recently.

Blaster, you did very well with those my friend. Do not be shy to get some non-shells from Alden now and then! :-D The Plaza Last just makes those killer!

Ha! Thanks! I have had these now for 3-4 years, gotten some decent wear out of them. I can usually get them looking pretty clean, but I just can not get my feet into them without putting of all the rolls back in! Gah!

Blaster, those are absolutely beautiful and the Natty CXL has a stunning color to them! Enjoy them my friend!

Thanks to all who advised leather soles over commando. I picked these up yesterday and love them.

I would have advised commando but I love your boots anyway (I owned both commando and leather soled boots and the commando is incredibly useful in NYC winters)
