1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Looks great, you should let the whiskey LWBs out of the closet from time to time.

btw Zippy I noticed some of your pictures on an ebay listing today. he was using your shoes as an example of shell or something. also used some other pictures from this thread from another user. I have seen mine posted on blogs as well, but they at least quoted my username here. didn't bother me since they cited me, and it wasn't so blatantly being used to make them money

Hmmm, I don't know whether to be amused or irritated. A little of both I guess.
Thanks for pointing it out. Funny thing is that one of the pairs is calf too.

My 403s arrived on Wednesday night....wore them to work on Thursday. I have a sit down job, so they fit and looked good...but today I plan to roam downtown for several hours to put them to the test...

    How do you like yours?

I love them but I have not worn them since I bought them last Saturday. I live in New Brunswick and if you knew where that was and what the weather is like here, you would not wear your $450 to 500 boots in this weather. Will have to wait until this place melts\\dries up . . .

I think I will leave my Brixtons at work when I get them though so I can wear them more.

What do you wear your 403s with in terms of pants\\trousers?

All my Alden boots have speed hooks. For those who have both, do you strongly prefer the speed hooks? debating a pair without them, but afraid I'll hate it.

This has been debated (?) here and it seems that you like them or don't, although a few, myself included, can go either way but I generally prefer the speedhooks.

I have both and don't have a strong feeling one way or another - speed hooks might save me 20 seconds in the morning?

All I can say is that I have both, but the ones without speed hooks get worn less than the ones with. Definitely more of a pain for me to put on!

    Sizing question if I may....

My 10D Barrie last chukkas in shell fit just fine.

If I wear them with my orthodics, they feel a bit snug all over....but more sore in the lace up area than in the toe box.

What would be a better option for adding some room : 10E or 10.5D?

    thanks!

FWIW, a 10E is wider than a 10.5D while the 10.5d offers a bit more room in length

Depends on how your foot fits in the orthotic. I need to go up in length, not width, because my ankle is small for my arch length. The orthotic is super comfortable but the back of the heel sits a bit farther forward vs. when in shoe w/ no orthotic. The orthotic hugs the arch & determines where foot will be held in the shoe. tl; dr Think about how your foot position is changed w/ orthotic and go from there.

I slightly prefer the laced version as I only unlace the top holes to remove or put them on. For this reason I can't really relate to the hooks being faster. My only real gripe with the hooks is they've come undone at the very top, where they apparently just weren't tightened to my leg enough. There's only so tight you can get them when the eyelets are closed in across from one another. Eyelets won't bend or break either. BTW I have 3 pair of each.

From my experience (all my special orders of 10.5EEE take 6-9 months) if your size is not readily available, either by vendor or your vendor ordering them from Alden. 12 weeks is nothing compared to if they have to place a special order. Keep in mind that unless the place you purchased them is expecting a shipment (ironically containing your off-stock size) you'll be waiting for them, to place a special order for your size on their NEXT order. This is why places like Leather Soul, Leffot and Sherman Brothers give you the opportunity to pre-order non-stock sizes. Sorry to say you my be left with having to have said vendor, or another, place a special order for them. But 9EE 405's should be stock items for Shoe Mart.

    Thanks very much.

I knew was going to be a wait, however my main concern was that after being told they were on target, there is now another unexpected 6-8 week delay.

Just wondering if this does sometimes happen?

Shipping is also an issue I have come accross, with Aldens. ShoeMart have the large selection of sizes, and are well priced, only don't ship Alden outside America. Or I can't seem to get them to anyway.

I also found several other places didn't ship overseas, and those that did charged a hefty price for doing so, around a quarter of the price of shoes. That is a fair stack on top of an expensive shoe. I couldn't afford that.

Many might say if it was cheaper, what is the issue. Again, I was just concerned that my wait has now been extended, and I wanted to know if that was normal.

    Thanks heaps.
