1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

While we arrived at the same place, you backed your position with much better data-points than I. Now I'm really convinced.

Thanks rlthreads. Good to see more black shell... @mdubs love the plaza semibrogues!!

Thanks Sazon. I reach for these quite frequently with this colder weather; very versatile indeed.

Thanks friend! AoC... I got them a couple of months ago. Adam said they would be restocked in April/May.

Perhaps I've been at this too long. But I wanted to provide my assessment and advice. I am not sentimental or overly attached to anything Alden in my collection; they are shoes after all. I've let rare Ravello, whiskey, and cigar shoes go that might floor some in this thread. The main drivers of what should be kept in a shoe collection is personal preference, style/aesthetics, and relative practicality, e.g. will you wear them frequently.

I'm jaded and believe most Alden styles re-appear through established retailers every year or two; in very few cases will something popular be discontinued or reissued on a three year basis or longer. That said, if you come across something in a rare shell color, or in ruby or #4 shell, or another must have, go for it! Just be comfortable paying a stiff premium.

Yes, good points and it might not be best to have a tanker and an Indy in such a modest collection...

I appreciate everyone's input and will be digesting all this and making my decision in the next few days. Thank you.

Edit to include - love these shoes. The blue suede is actually a shade or two darker than these pictures.

Agree completely and I will add that trubalance nst looks like an indy with a stitch down the middle...you have the cigar indy to fill that void.

    Looking sharp!
Wow. Beautiful. I'm regretting not picking these up while Unionmade had the makeup with heel foxing.

Can anyone who owns barrie and plaza lasted shoes comment on sizing? Is the general rule to size up 1/2 from barrie to plaza or should an adjustment be made for the width as well? Thanks.

    Shawn,

I take the same in both lasts...but I think that I may be a bit of an anomaly...

Barrie is definitely a bit bigger in the same size...but not by much IMHO.

I just assumed it was the typical size up conversation typically occurs with barrie but the plaza description on the AoC website made me reconsider. Their direction more closely aligns with your experience. Appreciate the speedy response Watchman. Thanks. Also, congrats on your recent picks. You've done quite well for yourself.

This is what I expected and I think your experience is probably more the norm. Appreciate the reply BootSpell. Thanks.
