I got a very lightly used pair on B&S back in June for $275. Deals can be had if you're patient.

I am familiar with most Alden retailers, but what is B&S?

I just ordered some for my second Alden pair, after the J. Crew brown longwings. Will let you know what I think when they arrive.
I was highly disappointed in the J. Crew brown longwings because they appear to be nearly black so I returned them. I do, however, love the tan color longwing from J. Crew.

About an hour after that post asking for opinions about the Norwegian welt, I went ahead and ordered them anyway. [IMG] Cigar seems to be more of a true dark brown hue.

Just thought I would give Tom with LS a plug. He posted a sneak peak of shoes that will be unveiled at the LSBH trunk show Dec. 3rd and 4th. Can't wait to check these out. The natural cxl looks great, and I am really interested in those plain toes.

    Thanks Tom.

Thanks JR. The plain toes are not quite plain toes...they're a little different. [IMG]

Yeah. Debating doing it and making them my winter boot. It's hard to pull the trigger on $435 though.
Unless you live within 30 degrees of the equator where it never snows, or you're referring to the Kudu Indy's with the lug sole, this is a bad idea. The neoprene sole of the standard 403/405 is hardly suitable for winter conditions. The only Alden soles that are remotely appropriate for winter are the commando and lug soles. Contrary to your intention for wearing the boot, I believe that the Indy's are a great 3-season boot, perfect for when there isn't snow on the ground. I wouldn't spend more than $150 for a boot that I would only wear one season out of the year, and there are plenty of options for proper winter boots at that pricepoint.

Hey Tom, apart from the cxl natural tankers coming soon, do you plan on ordering or receiving any other boots? As my signature says, I am interested in some cordovans. I think in a previous post you mentioned you are taking pre-orders for the Hawaiian Tankers, but wasn't sure if there may be other options in the pipeline.

And on a different note, any thoughts to put loafers, maybe in cigar or ravello, on commando or cork soles? Some might think this is weird, but I wear my loafers casually more than formally, and I would snap that combo up in a heartbeat.

    Thanks.

Gosh, busy morning for me on here...

Anyone own a pair of the leisure mods and indy boots? I am just curious about sizing with the mods and if they fit tts or if I should go with a half size down like The indys.

Any info you have would be helpful.

Can someone give me a recommendation on a good shoe repair shop in the West Los Angeles or surrounding areas that will take care of my Alden's. . .not for major repairs, but more for polishing, loose stitching, etc. Especially someone who has had experience with shell, which I have had trouble finding.
Not in WLA exactly, but in Glendale. That shoe repair shop on the 2nd floor of the Glendale Galleria, by the food court, is pretty good. I personally don't have experience with him and Aldens. I visited the place several times to buy shoe care products and usually chat with the guy for good minutes. Sometimes I don't even buy anything, and he still treats me well. The shop's been there since the birth of the mall decades ago, basically. When I started talking about Alden's to him, he grinned and said that's the good stuff. He asked me to bring the shoes to him when I need care because it's rare for him to work on quality shoes nowadays. The shop was started by his dad, and he has now moved up from an apprentice to being the main guy. He seems to have a genuine passion for shoe, told me to call him for any advice. (Prior to stumbling onto this forum, I never knew shoe care was so complicated with the brushing, cream, etc. and would always forgot the steps). Just FYI. Good luck.

That's just what I'd be looking for in a shoe repair guy - someone that doesn't work on quality shoes every day! [IMG]

peterparker: I have worn my indy kudu's in Stockholm snow for a week now, without doing anything about them, so far no problem. But what you wrote made me a little anxious. I probably wouldn't take the shoes walking in the mountains, but going around town shouldn't be a big problem?
