1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

We got about 17" of snow Sunday and yesterday morning and there's another 3" on its way tonight. It may be a while until I put mine on my feet as well. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm wanting to put metal toe taps on my #8 boots. Any recommendations of manufacturer or cobbler to have it done? Is it something I should send my boots off for or use a local cobbler?

I have B. Nelson do it to most of my shoes/boots. Runs around $40 which isn't too bad as it seriously extends the life of my footwear because of my gait.

Right? Those 2 little pieces of shell are the smoothest and best finished out of all my shell footwear.

Eh...not really. The last time I did anything to these I deer boned them. Maybe a couple of months ago. I honestly haven't touched them since besides wiping them off with my lambswool mitt after wearing.

Hello everyone. I am semi new here and new to Aldens all together. I recently ordered my first pair, I went with the 405 Indys from J.Crew. They will be here on Thursday, I cannot wait! My current boot of choice are my Red Wing Chukkas, so I am very interested to see how they compare. I have a question though, I am also into raw denim. I currently have a few pairs in rotation that are fairly new and the do leave indigo stains on my Red Wings and on my other sneakers. Is there anything I can do that you guys can recommend to limit this on my incoming Indys? Thanks in advance!

    Paul

    Hi gents,
sorry to ask again. I received a tentative answer and just wanted something more concrete:

Can anyone else chime in on whether or not the Alden Cap on the "Straight Tip/Perforated Straight Tip/Medallion Oxford"(anything on the Hampton last) is longer than those of the AE #5 last shoes? Thanks for your time.

I am a whiskey LWB away from the shell rainbow in gunboats. I have a whiskey shortwing bal, so I've passed up the longwing a couple of times. Everytime I see them posted here by DV and others, I tell myself I need to make it a priority to acquire.

    Looking great as usual MrDV!

They really are a great all-weather/purpose shoe that can be dressed up (to an extent) very nicely.

Hey Paul, congrats on the Indys! Your boots are chromexcel leather which is pretty waxy. This will be pretty resilient to the bleeding indigo. The oro-iginal leather is significantly lighter and less waxy. I've seen in extreme cases, people apply tape the the inside of their cuff to prevent the transfer of indigo to lighter shoes. Good luck!
