1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Looking for an opinion on Indy boots if you can spare it ... Commando or Neoprene Cork?

This would be my first pair of Indys. Ohio winters (and other assorted seasons) are wet, often icy. I assume the neoprene sole is less than ideal in snow and ice, so I'm leaning toward the Ultimate or Innsbruck. But I'd also like to wear them as everyday boots, while traveling, etc. I wasn't sure if the added weight makes the Ultimate/Innsbruck less ideal for just kicking around.

If you have a thought either way, please share. Thanks.

There was another member asking the same question about a week or two ago if you look back. I think the consensus was that they are both good soles in poor weather, with the commando giving a little more traction on slippery surfaces.

As DV stated, they both get good marks in poor weather with the slight advantage to the Commando. I've had Indy's on both and wouldn't turn my nose up at the neoprene but I greatly prefer the commando. I wear my boots in all conditions and for long walks on occasion and I don't think the commando adds enough weight to make that an issue (FWIW, the rubber portion of Alden's commando sole is relatively thin and quite flexible compared to the lugged sole that Rancourt uses). In fact, I wore my commando sole choco NST boots on 3 mile walk this morning to get breakfast and go to the barber shop.

Def Tru Balance. Barrie stitching is rounded, not squared like TB.

Wow, these might be the ultimate grail for me. Cigar PTB with brass eyelets, simply stunning. I wonder if Frans Boone will ever be doing these again. I would easily pay the premium to get these from them. If not I might have to get on a list and then have some exposed eyelets added from B Nelson.

one could probably grab a pair of regular cigar ptbs on this side of the pond and have B.Nelson retro brass eyelets on (for the same approximate cost to get from fransboone and shipped over)

^ looks excellent, glad to see you back posting!

I just heard back from Kathy about the Whiskey PTBs, and long story short, my pair weren't sent because they had a defect. But, Kathy reached out to Alden and asked them to send them anyway, and said that they looked better than some of the first quality shoes she receives. She's going to send them to me, and at 30% off! If the defect looks bad, I can always send them back.

Lol. Apparently Alden quality control holds back the quality shoes.

Haha, seriously. She said there's a very slight flaw at the front of one of the shoes. I'm not sure which one or what exactly the flaw is, but she definitely made it sound very minor. I'm excited to see what they look like, and the discount is a nice bonus :slayer:
