1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

    Cheers,

I just got my first pair of Alden shell captoe boots and very happy with them!

I don't know how it happened, but I got a crack in them on the heel.
It doesn't appear to be very deep and I cannot spread it with my fingers.
Should I still do something about it to avoid that it spreads?
I tried to smooth it a little with a bit of conditioner and a spoon.
    The results are below...

I used to have a problem with this make-up, as I've long thought a black cap toe is super formal, such that putting it on a commando boot further confused the issue. But I have done an about face, realizing the versatility and overall badness of the model. It's the perfect evening boot, esp when going to parties, bars, concerts, and other crowded places where you want to look your best but need the durability and comfort throughout the night. I plan to rock mine w jeans and a sport coat most of the time.

I'm looking for at least year old alden suede pics on here. How may I google that? I know you guys are good with using search parameters and all that. I'd just like to learn.
That Epaulet Olmsted shoe would really look great for what I'll be wearing this fall. I'm hesitant on the suede since I'm a Dad of a little one and maybe not to conscious of my feet and stains anyway but I can't stop checking it out.

I feel like I miss so much of this thread when I don't pay attention for a few days. I've been moving apartments in NYC and have been distracted. My new place has much better sunlights and floor to ceiling windows - all the better to take Alden photos...

Are any retailers selling snuff suede high boots? A stray 9.5E Context Snuff Roy boot sold before I could order it.

What exactly goes into a recrafting/refurbishing when done by Alden or another high-quality cobbler? I'm lusting after some more pairs of shell, but in the absence of many offerings in Cigar, Whiskey, or Ravello, I'm considering going used. However, I know that the way shoes break in is unique to one's own individual feet, and I'm pretty committed to wanting the footbed to be broken in for my feet. If I bought a pair of used shell shoes and sent them for recrafting, could the footbed (and any cork in there) and leather lining be replaced?
