For me, as long as the belt is decent quality and a close match, I'll take it...more money for the shoes. I found a $40 AE walnut belt at The Rack this week.

I do agree with you that they do not need to be a 100% match. There are about 3 feet (just a guess, I didn't actually measure) of distance between my waist and my hip. Wow, you have managed to make me MORE excited about tomorrow... Whiskey Wednesday! Tomorrow my Whiskey LHSes arrive too!

$40 is a great buy for that belt! I think that I got mine off of eBay for around $50 new (and I thought that was a great deal).

Have a good night all!

Great shoe and great example of a belt that gets the job done. Many members satisfied with match up, and I think it's great. However I will say I'm fortunate to have Alden belts in whiskey and cigar, in the 1.25 in and 1.5 in widths. It's really nice to match up hide and the color variance that adds so much character to experience. The belt typically have 3 large piece that vary in color, making for a very cool combo it that's something that interests you.

See Ya,
Steve

Steve,

I got very lucky earlier this year and Kathy happened to have a Whiskey and Cigar belt sitting around in my sizes. I particularly admire the Whiskey belt and it indeed has some beautiful character in it.

I think the Rancourt shell#8 belt is definitely for Alden shell#8.

Yeah, someone posted that they did a small demo run out of their Maine factory that they use to produce the Cape Cod collection. Unfortunately, it was stated that they do not receive Alden's special dye that darkens and "eggplants" their Color 8. So I am guessing it will match as well as my AE Burgundy Shell belt, which is not very well.

FWiW, my Alden Shell Belts from before they stopped making them (I know, they did not actually make them themselves) did not have the special finish either. I have 1 in cigar and 1 in Color 8, and they are hard to tell apart, since neither color is really what it should be.

On that note, are the Brooks Brothers shell cordovan belts made with Horween shell? Its not specified in the description and their wallets are made in Japan, and I suppose that they're not Horween shell cordovan.

Not sure, but you can always return if you are not pleased with it.

Mike-I got several of mine from Kathy too.

Bakes-I'm not debating your experience with the Alden belts in Cigar and #8, but my cigar belts in 1.25" and 1.5" are multi color and are defiantly light to medium cigar color and not close to #8. Same for my whiskey with a lot of variance in the 3 pieces used, but a great match for whiskey shoes since they too seem to vary a lot in color. No doubt belts have a wide variance in color. However I got lucky and could not be happier with my Alden Cigar and Whiskey belts. I did buy the Horween 1 piece belt in #8, and dark cognac and those are very close in color and on the dark side.
