I wonder if you have all leather soles, will they also suffer and degrade quickly in wet surroundings?
I've noticed some boots have waterlock oiled leather soles. Better to go with those kind of soles when living in areas where it rains a lot i suppose?

Wet leather soles plus cement is not a good combo. Wet leather soles do wear faster. Wet leather soles on a rough surface will wear much faster.

someone requested pics of roys and jeans with smaller leg opening. iphone pics

    I do not understand:

I like to let the newspaper pull most of the moisture out of the shoes before I put the trees back in.

Another reason for letting the shoes dry before inserting shoe trees is to prevent stretching the leather, which it would be more prone to do when moist. The care instructions that came with my Alden boots said even after normal use, the shoes should be allowed to temper or cool off before inserting shoe trees. As for the pocking from water drops on cordovan, will applying a wax paste (as suggested on the blog) prevent those from surfacing? Does Alden apply any wax to their cordovan shoes from the factory? I'm curious because both pairs of my Alden shells developed these marks, and they have only been worn a couple of times, not even in the rain for that matter. This does not look good, and I don't want my shoes end up looking like these: http://www.styleforum.net/attachment...3&d=1266015107 *edit* Found my answer here: http://www.styleforum.net/showthread...=161026&page=3

Looking for a boot for the winter weather that will be pretty versatile and go with Denim, Cords, and some wool pants. Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Been looking at the Cap Toe with the Commando Sole in Dark Tan from the Shoe Mart. Let me know what you guys think. http://www.theshoemart.com/alden-men..._calfskin.html

Not a fan of that Shoe Mart boot because of the bare eyelets; otherwise would be great. You have to watch out with boots and wool pants -- speed hooks have been known to pull out hems, especially if you move suddenly or quickly. Alden boots without speed hooks are rare, but as you know they're not impossible to find. I personally prefer these: http://www.theshoemart.com/alden-men..._cordovan.html http://www.leathersoulhawaii.com/201...-jumper-boots/ These look amazing: http://www.leathersoulhawaii.com/201...boot-lsw-lsbh/ A chukka isn't a winter-enough boot for some, but it's a good option. Leather Soul had Ravello chukkas in in September: http://www.leathersoulhawaii.com/201...oots-lsw-lsbh/

is it weird to wear a size 7d in barrie but need a bigger size for tru balance? because i have 2 alden longwings both cordo in 7d i just got a pair of indy cordo's today in 7d and its definately too tight with not even lacing them tightly.

also theres definately barely any toe room compared to barrie or will it stretch out some?

I've been lurking for some time now and this seems to be a good place to jump in...

I don't believe the Trubalance last fits like the Barrie - like the Barrie, it is sized larger than "regular" lasts but the Trubalance fits tighter through the toes (and at the same time appears to be more "bulbous" than the Barrie). It's unfortunate because more of the boots are coming through with the Trubalance last (like the Roy, the J Crew suede boot and the cigar Indy's from Leffot that I just dumped on eBay).

Another challenging last for me? Grant (I'm between sizes, the 9 is too tight and the 9.5 is too loose).

yea i think i'm in the same boat as you. i got almost no toe room in the tru balance that by the end of the day my feet probably be killing me. the barrie last has just the right amount of room. anyhow thats another pair of aldens i had to return [IMG] . maybe i should just stick with buying just the longwings on barrie although i only need #8 and whiskey. i have ravello and cigar already.
