1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

    Cheers,

I think people are interested because they have seen video and article evidence that select people have toured in the past. Typical iGent fascination. I am with you BeSpiff, not really desperate to see typical old school manufacturing.

Depends on your likes an interests. Old US manufacturing machinery and techniques interest me. I also like the raw materials, the smells, the atmosphere.

I would watch a butcher make bratwurst too if I could.

The age of handmade things in America is dying. Its fascinating to see that some things are still made by hand with care.

I think it's part nostalgia and wanting to know where the magic happens, kinda like taking a tour of Skywalker Ranch.

Been a while since I posted shoe shots but I did want to share a couple of recent projects. First is a conversion of my shell monks from black to antique welt. My first attempt with these were ok but I recently had topy's added and the cobbler painted over the welt with dark brown. He thought he was doing me a favor. Whatever he used was harder to remove than the original factory finish. Here is how they turned out......

This shot compares them to my Leffot tankers. Not an exact match, but passable.....

I've also been working on a recent EBAY acquisition of Ravello full straps from Alden of SF. I basically flipped my color 8 full straps for these....

To further illustrate the variability in ravello, here is a shot with a pair of Marlow's that were labeled as dark brown.....

Hard to detect any difference. Lastly, a shot with my Whisky LHS's and whiskey R.Martegani made for Leathersoul (shameless plug, these are in my signature).....

For intel, I think it could be more interesting to strike up a conversation with the factory workers at the local watering hole. (Am I stereotyping to assume they would be at one?) You'd probably learn a lot more about what goes on in there. On the other hand, perhaps management relies on them to maintain their operational opacity. In that case, you'd do well to hide the agenda and not wear your Aldens. [IMG]

Not really all the workers must perform their duties blindfolded to maintain secrecy.....wait a minute that explains the QC. Concessions must be made to keep trade secrets like the crooked stitch technique safe.

I won some building materials at one of my suppliers lunches today. Already listing the stuff for private sale as it should net me about $300-$400, or as I like to refer to it as, halfway to a new pair of Aldens [IMG]
