I'm no denim expert, but when I do buy denim it's Gustin. Under $100 for the equivalent of a $200+ pair of denim. No middlemen, no inventory, no marketing it all adds up.

IMO it's been that way for a while. I joined there before SF.

Does anyone find their barrie chukkas fit differently than their barrie high boots?

I own a pair of 11 C Barrie PTBs and 11 D Tanker boots, and find them to fit about the same, with the Tankers possibly still being slightly smaller than the PTBs. I've tried on a pair of 11 D Barrie chukkas, and they were easily bigger than any 11 D barrie shoe or high boot I've ever tried on, to the point that I thought they might have been a mislabeled 11.5 D.

In summary, for the same size on the Barrie, I find high boots fit smaller than shoes, which fit smaller than chukkas.

exactly.

guys in my office think ive lost my top when they get out of me what it took and/or the price required to acquire whatever shoes/boots I'm wearing today.

only reason I haven't delved into higher price denim is I need to lose a little poundage first :rotflmao:

I actually hate it when guys in my office with their Cole Haans start asking me about my shoes. First, because none of them have ever heard of Alden or any of the other brands I wear, and I don't like trying to explain what they are or where I got them. And second, because when they find out how much they cost, they all think I'm nuts.

Guys - how much does it cost to have alden recraft an Indy boot to the original newoprene sole. I was quoted 195 by moulded - that sounds high to me.

thanks!

^^ I thought Alden's recrafts were in the mid-100's. I'm sure someone with firsthand knowledge will chime in soon.

@ Beatlegeuse and KWhiteLaw - I avoid conversations about Alden for precisely that reason. AE is a possibility, but y'all act as my Alden support/enabling group. I am glad to have this outlet.

I agree. This is also one of my only shoe outlets. My wife is sick of me talking about shoes. :rotflmao:

HaHa. I have found almost everyone I know spends a crazy amount of money on what others could call 'crazy'. My boss collects rare comic books and baseball cards. One of my co workers buys tickets to musicals and stuff. Another buys camera lenses. Why they look at me like I am crazy I just ask them how much they just spent on their last thing and it's all settled. :)

There are four main camps in the offices I have been in

1) Guys with starter/bad shoes (square toe Cole Haan, KC, etc)
2) Traditional guys wearing Allen Edmonds
3) Guys wearing Italian shoes (Ferragamo, Gucci, etc). So many bit loafers (honestly Gucci bit loafers are not bad, I have a beat up pair). This is probably the largest group.
4) Guys in shoes that look English or otherwise high end

So it runs the gamut. I occasionally see some Alden, but it's definitely rarer than all four groups described. That said, more and more random people I meet are asking me "are those Aldens" and people tend to like the look of cordovan.

I have an opposite point of view on this subject. If a person goes beyond saying to me "Hey, nice shoes", and they ask me where I got them and who made them I enjoy taking the time to tell them what little I know. Once I explain about the qualities of horse butt leather, how it's tanned and how long it takes, they usually come around to understanding that the price is appropriate when compared to other RTW types of footwear.

All right, who got the size 11 NWOB LS plaza last 8 monk strap shoe on eBay last night for $350? I wasn't planning to pull the trigger on them, but I must admit to a slight tinge of disappointment when they sold about 20 minutes after I noticed them. Congratulations!
