There is definitely BS going on --- depending on who you talk to and when, you get different stories from the same stores. I think a large part of it has to do w the fact that they have so many unconfirmed orders and no idea as to when - or whether - those orders will be confirmed. Could be a year - could be tomorrow. The shoes are already spoken for with a long list of alternate buyers. Then you factor in Alden's propensity to send half of what they asked for... They don't want to say all this. They just say "nope, no good for a year."

For what's its worth all of those orders that just got filled had been on the books for a long time from what I'm told. I know I found out about the orders being confirmed around June and got my name on the list for the PTB, they did not get any LWB in my size. I think each store got about 18 pairs. I definitely understand the frustration for those who have been waiting a long time. It's not right.

See Ya,
Steve

Pretty frustrating when you think you are on a pre-order list for Ravello LWB's and two different PTB orders and somehow dont get a single pair...It is precisely these type of long waits and disappointments that have me looking at other brands and losing some of my Alden loyalty

Alden NY has a ravello ptb in 11.5D up for grabs, sadly they didn't order my size this time around. If anyone spots a 12D pair, please give me a shout out.
I don't want to know this...but did you ask how much?

I am fairly sure back room deals take place or perhaps even worse retailers who only sell to the elite customers. I often wonder how much of a chance we actually have.

I totally agree with this. Alden SF had the audactiy yesterday to tell me that I was first on the list but that they didnt order an 8D. Yeah right...

This is the impression I got...people not selling to unknowns.

I am used to this in the luxury watch world. Would not have thought it happened in shoes. Although this "exotic shell shortage" reminds me of the 'elusive' stainless steel Rolex Daytona. Fabricated shortage to drive up demand...long lists of waiting customers and not being able to walk in off the street about buy it if you aren't one of the 'elite'.
