Ugh. There is a shoe porn thread and an AE thread for this. Sorry. This thread is getting...clownish.

Sorry that one single post out of the hundreds I have made in this thread brought that kind if reaction. Really wasn't my intention at all.

Apologies unnecessary IMO. This post was no less interesting than your other typically helpful posts. I'm in Chicago for the weekend and your post inspired me to visit the AE store across from our hotel. Long story short, I ended up with a pair of walnut Dalton boots in shell and they will take back the calf version I picked up about a month ago from Nordstroms. I've heard that AE's customer service is legendary and the work my salesperson did to find me a rare shell version of this boot was impressive. However, none of this would have happened without your post. Referring to it as clownish injects a tone that goes against everything that makes this site great. I would ignore it if I were you.

Really basic (almost to the point of being silly) question. When others on this site refer to 'gunboats' are they only referring to LWB's or is the term used to describe other shoes (i.e. SWB's, etc.)?

Occasional posts about other brands of shoes and boots (especially in cordovan) can be very helpful and definitely have their place in this thread

I've seen someone use it to refer to PTBs too. I think it's more a reference to "chunky" wingtips and ptbs featuring a double sole, but it usually means LWB. Mac and others also refer to them as B&H (Big and Heavy) before too.

While Roguls is technically correct (there are other threads to post this pic), I agree with Alcibiades. An occasional pic or discussion on other shell products outside of Alden (shoes, belts, wallets, watch straps, etc...) finds itself welcomed here by many. Even our beloved Uncle has posted pics of his C&J for RL Marlow wingtips. I doubt anyone would call that clownish.
    +1

Not sure what this means. When I said AAA-EEE I was referring to widths, from very narrow to very wide and everything in between. Alden still makes shoes and boots in A and B widths, what did you mean by "super old wooden lasts?"

Eyelets are not difficult to install if you want to go DIY or ask your local repairman to handle it.

It means that the current lasts they have are almost no longer functional for the purpose of making shoes. Wouldn't make since for Alden to burn out the remaining lasts to make try on shoes. They could order more lasts but not sure if they would see that feasible. Alden did discontinue a last that United Arrows has been using for years in Japan for a reason similar to this and United Arrows is a huge stocklist
