I prefer dark edge trim on color 8 models, shoes and boots. I have had antique edging before. I colored it black.

If you like Alden stock models, and particularly if you buy Aldens, at least in part, for professional business dress, you may find yourself owning many many models in color 8 and black.

This is going to seem like a silly question but what are the pro's/con's of lined versus unlined? I always assumed unlined was more casual and for wear without socks. But I would never think of a PTB that fits this bill.

Perhaps just opt for good quality calf if you are concerned about creases. No?

The main difference is that the unlined PTBs feel a lot lighter and more flexible out of the box due to the unlined upper and single, flex welt sole. Despite that I wouldn't recommend it sockless. The standard PTB is a much studier, heaver shoe with its double leather sole.

Some people say the unlined PTB creases easier, but I haven't really observed that on my black pair.

Both PTBs can be pretty dressy - I would even say the unlined PTB can look "sleeker" due to the single leather sole, but clearly the lined PTB is also a classic dress shoe. Both can also be worn casually.

First, go to their site and register. Once you get the email, call the store and let them know you want to do a preorder and that you have a coupon. They will take your payment information and apply the $50 credit. Unfortunately, they did charge me $20 for shipping, however this was offset by the $50 coupon

I love this site and people like you Alcibiades are the reason why. Thanks for patiently walking a rookie through such a basic question.

For your intended uses, and incorporating the models you have mentioned, I would suggest a color 8 model in the following order:

    PTB
    LWB
    Chukka

If you can find it, I would recommend the Alden for BB PTB.
