Thank you [IMG] Alden SF has them in stock, I think.

Damn it! Although I was hoping there was a way I could find a pair, my bank account was hoping their wasn't lol. How long have you had them? The darkening looks fantastic.

Great new Alden boot offering by Tom over at LS....

    Are you a size 10D?

I'm not him but I am that size. I tried to shoot you a pm but it says your box is full.

My plaza wingtips decided to get it on with some black polish and Obenauf's in an effort to be less red. I like where they're headed. [IMG]

I too wear the same size in all my Aldens. I have a wide foot and perhaps that is the culprit. I'm a 10.5EEE in Barrie, Trubalance, Hampton and Aberdeen. Obviously I can wear thicker socks in Barrie and Trubalance. I love the look of the Plaze but am sure that's a no go in width. I'm interested in the Grant last but are unfamiliar with size limitations. Also I've never seen the Grant in an EEE. It's an SOB to have to wait almost a year to get 80% of my shoes. I guess it's the plight of having Barney-Rubblesque feet.
I think it also depends where you're wide. The plazas are narrow but still ok at the ball, which is where I'm wide, so they fit, albeit snugly.

They're a work in progress, I need to get them worn in a little more for some natural patina but what I wanted was something similar to cigar shell in color. Choosing black was risky because of the detail on this shoe but I really like the results. The same color range you see in the heel and sole are in the leather as well, from black, to chocolate and then to some burgundy and reds depending on the lighting. In natural light these look dark brown. Here they are sandwiched between some cigar shell for comparison. [IMG] [IMG]

Sockpuppets that looks really good. [IMG] Any advice you may be able to give out to achieve this with Chromexcel?

The cxl looks ok just pales next to the cigar imo. I realized I'm just a shell guy and I think I'm gonna work towards a shoedrobe of 5 shells I think and just try to wear each once a week

Thanks. Those wingtips are chromexcel. Advice wise: You can always go darker but not lighter, so choose a lighter color than I did if you're looking explore that range. I was ok with these going black if needed. Apply evenly, use quality products. Other than that you have to be ok with the idea of them not turning out as you planned, there's always some risk. Good to hear you're finding ways to make this boot work for you.

Not speaking to socks here (I understand he simply wanted a darker boot), but in general I think people need to give Alden's chromexcel more chance to break in before they react or reject the color. This leather works best for those who understand that it's a very rich looking leather but not at all a dress leather. The boot doesn't need to be polished and it shouldn't be polished. Let the smudges and scuffs develop, and let the boot darken in the areas that it wants to darken and get lighter (or redder) where it wants to do that. That's the primary aesthetic character of this leather and if you're not into it, then you should probably opt for calf or another type of leather. Chromexcel typically doesn't WOW right out of the box, it takes 30-40 wears for it to get beautiful. Do yourself a favor and allow that to happen before you decide the color needs adjusting.

I have the Roys and now the LS NST boots, and the fun of this leather is to just wear it and watch it get nice. No help needed! Just patience.
