1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

I'm still looking for my first pair of Aldens to be worn with raw denim and chinos and the occasional suit. That said I think I have narrowed it down to shell chukkas, shell PTB or shell cap toe boot all in color #8. I already own AE Strand in walnut calf and 1000 mile CXL brown PT boot.

Any suggestions? This would be for dinner, coffee and kicking around San Francisco.

^^^ I'd personally go with the 975 (LWB). If not, I'd go to the 990 (PTB).

Really can't go wrong with any of the choices. I would say probably chukka or PTB. The Leffot PTB with antique edge would work perfectly

Longwings as above (975s) or the chukkas. I own and love them both equally

Honestly if a shell captoe boot is available, I'd get that over the 975 and 990, especially in SF, where you can wear boots all year. I'm biased but I think cordovan captoe boots are the best thing Alden does. I have them in color 8, black and cigar and would get rid of basically all of my other shoes ahead of those three.

Just back from a week trip in Ireland and took the chukka and PTB for the trip..... Slacks and suit for dinner and jeans at the bar for a pint or two.... No problem except traveling with three shoes counting the sneakers for working out. I am going to add the LWB shortly and you will be good with any of the three. PTB was my first.

I would go Captoe as well, since he already has a plain toe design already in his plain toe boots.

Clearly the 990 and 975 are classics, and he can't go wrong with them (I'd choose both over the chukka). But IMO captoe boots (particularly on the Grant or plaza last) are the sharpest looking and most versatile among the choices

Yes, they are very nice and can be dressed up or down fairly well.

I don't think there's anything biased about anything you said. You simply love captoe boots. Rock on.

No argument here. If you enjoy boots, I think Alcibiades makes a lot of sense. I have a couple pairs of boots including the perf cap toe in king, but I don't wear them that often.

Bought these beauties from Frans Boone (picture also from fransboonestore.com). On the grant last. I have low-insteps and I think it's a nice last for people in my situation. Most britisch dress shoes (C&J, Loake,...) have proved to be to roomy around the instep for my feet so I'm very happy to have these Aldens. They are my first Aldens, but not my last I think :)
