Mac: nephew, had the lhs changed from a single sole to a double sole

Was the original edging on the single sole dark as the dark welt suggests?

Not sure I would wear mine with a suit but they shine up nice and I wear them with dress pants and sportscoat all the time....

I wonder if this is the case for shell in general or only Alden shell, given that it is specially treated.

Not to fear, REguy. Steve Jobs had over 100 black Isaac Miyake turtlenecks. Just start the next Apple and no one will bat an eye.

"In the process, however, he became friends with Miyake and would visit him regularly. He also came to like the idea of having a uniform for himself, both because of its daily convenience (the rationale he claimed) and its ability to convey a signature style. "So I asked Issey to make me some of his black turtlenecks that I liked, and he made me like a hundred of them." Jobs noticed my surprise when he told this story, so he showed them stacked up in the closet. "That's what I wear," he said. "I have enough to last for the rest of my life."

REguy: Do any of you guys have multiple pairs of the identical shoe? Whenever I see a crazy good deal for a new pair on eBay, I snatch it up. I now have 4 pairs of the J. Crew antique tan LWBs. I justified having 2 by keeping them at different locations as I travel for work. With 4, this will be my go-to shoe until I die. I'm beginning to think I have some kind of compulsive, hoarder psychosis. That, or I'm just a sucker for a good sale.

No - if limited to literally the same shoe style, brand, and model number. I'm not that crazy. :D

Yes - if different brands/variations of the same style are included.

All double leather soled unless otherwise designated.

    color 8 PTB (4):
    Alden 990
    Alden for BB
    Vintage Florsheim
    AE Leeds (commando)

    color 8 LWB (3):
    Alden 975
    Vintage Florsheim
    AE MacNeil (Dainite)

    color 8 SW balmoral (2):
    Alden 974
    Alden for BB

    black shell PTB (3):
    Alden 9901 (commando)
    Vintage Florsheim (Dainite)
    AE Leeds

    dark brown shell PTB (2):
    C&J for RL (Marlow)
    AE Leeds

    1. I am looking to buy the lined, barrie-lasted, snuff suede bluchers from Need Supply, but I need some direction with sizing.

    Current shoes that fit well:
    BB straight tips, #8, 9.5D
    Jumper boots, CXL, 9D

    2. Is there a consensus on whether Nano Protector alters either the color or the hand of the suede?

    Always appreciate the guidance!

You should be fine with 9D.

My closest incidence of two of the same: I have the #8 LWB from Leffot with the light edge trim. I was considering getting the model 975 as well....can't decide if this overkill or not.

I realize that this forum is the wrong place to ask this question !

Maiden voyage of my newest acquisition today - Alden x LS snuff suede medallion captoe on Plaza last. Picked it up on eBay for a great price from another Forum member.

I really like them, but still not 100% convinced they will work for me long term. The fit in the forefoot and around the toes is great. However, I have a narrow foot (my heel is especially narrow), so there is some heel slippage when I walk. I'm hoping it goes away as the shoe breaks in. But if you look at the 2nd pic here, you can see that when I bend the shoe I'm getting some bowing around my ankle area. I already have a tongue pad in the to help me fill out the shoe a little better. Maybe I need a thicker tongue pad or an additional pad?

i don't know what you are concerned about. The antique edge trim v. the dark edge trim make those two different shoes!

This. Although I do know there have been certain inaccuracies in the J. Crew descriptions noted in this thread before (re: Chromexcel), I'm inclined to think that the last description for the suede chukkas is correct.

The Indy is the only one I've noticed on a non-Barrie last (Trubalance).
