    loafer socks:
falke step (not sneaker - that one is higher cut) do not show in LHS, and do not slip as they have a rubber pad in the back. Mr porter and socksfox stock them. Best I've tried.

Who would have thought that at my age I'd be posting to a forum, but I've been an avid follower of this site for about a month. I'm particularly struck by the civility, knowledge, and sense of style exhibited by the overwhelming majority of the members. I was bitten by the Alden bug about 3 months ago and have picked up 3 pairs (used) in that time. I finally decided to take the plunge with a new pair (2 actually) and I can state without shame that I am in love. Based on postings from this site, I picked these up from Alden of Carmel

I am also in like with these I picked up from the defect selection at Shoemart

Sorry for the long post but I do have a few questions for your consideration. First, one of the 3 pair of Aldens I picked up used has shell cordovan stamped in the inside of the shoe. Horween is also stamped inside the leather of one of the shoes. There is no such markings on the Shells from Alden of Carmel. My question is whether genuine shell's typically have some type of marking?

Question 2 relates to the defects from Shoemart. I don't see anything wrong with the shoe but the stitching on the exterior looks much thinner than on any model of Alden Split Toe's that I've seen. I don't mean to sound like a snob, but part of the reason for dropping $1G on 2 pairs of shoes is that I want it to be obvious that I'm wearing Alden's. My concern is that one of the distinguishing characteristics of Alden Split Toe's is the thicker stitching. I would appreciate yor thoughts on this.

Again, my apologies for the long post. I've got many more questions but I will save them for another day. Thanks.

Question 2: it looks like you have a v tip model which differs from the standard NST.They are two completely different models but the good news, both look great. Congrats and welcome.

it's a lottery whether you'll discover a stamping on the inside of a pair of shells. from my dozen or so pair, I think one pair of boots has a faint circular line on the tongue. I've yet to get the elusive full stamp somewhere (other than in an Ashland wallet)

imo, pay no mind to stampings. grab what you like when you find it in your size, as it may not come around for another year or two [IMG]

    Welcome to the forum shawnc,
Your used pair with the horween shell cordovan oval logo is an unlined pair. Your alden of Carmel shoes will not have this logo visible because the leather lining covers the back of the shell. Genuine shell shoes will have a marking only on the leather soles, that mark will also disappear after a few wears.
Bespoke pa is correct, your split toes are v tips, and they look awesome.
5 pairs in 3 months, you have the fever sir.

V-tips look nice. They are relatively unusual model to find. I wonder if these are on be modified last. That would be unusual in itself.

Enjoy your Aldens and let us know how they are wearing for you.

I think you are thinking of the NST, as opposed to the pair you procured.

    No apologies needed. Welcome.

As said, the second pair is a v-tip and not an NST, and it looks like how a v-tip should look. Alden v-tips are fairly rare so consider yourself lucky.
