Quick question...should I be getting a small or medium Alden shoe tree for the Ravello Wingtip Boot and Longwing both in the Barrie last size 8D? I was told Medium but someone said that cordovan may stretch overtime. I thought that cordovan doesn't stretch.

I use size small in my size 7D Barrie lasted shoes and they're probably on the smaller side. I think you'd be OK with a medium - assuming you're talking about Alden brand or something with a similar shape.

Please forgive me, but I have been lurking a while and would love to make a move on some Alden Indys.

I have messaged some people on this forum, and have emailed some stockists regarding sizes, as I am Brisbane Australia with no way of trying some on.

I wear a 9.5EE with my Katahdins, and so am looking for advice on Indys. I know they run big. I received an email back from Ed at Shoemart saying "probably a 9EEE".

I have no experience whatsoever with EEE sizing. Without doubting his word (this is an expensive thing to get wrong), I thought I would go to people who wear these boots. Would that be a good fit? Would the extra width be what I need only going down half a size?

Really keen for a pair of Indys, but I really don't want to get it wrong and have to sort through the returns etc.

    Any help welcome. Thanks.

i'd say go with a 9 EE. the general consensus with indy sizing is just to go a half size down. i don't know why the situation would be any different in your case.

but i'd wait for tom to chime in and say his piece as well.

Alden Rust Suede Boot on crepe sole - color works with just about any casual outfit, and the suede + calf leather lining make it incredibly comfortable to have wrapped around your foot.

Now I am confused. You say go with a 9.5EE? That is what I am already. Half a size down for me is 9EE. Is that what you meant?

Thanks. So far, three new models, one will be a boot. I may release a few more, haven't decided yet. Hope you and other Southern Cal SFers can make it down.

Just want to chime in because it would have helped me:

About a week ago I signed up for Shoe Mart's Alden Irregulars email and placed an order for black Cordovan Alden lace up Indys. Naturally I was nervous about spending so much on Irregulars and was thinking that I should have just ponied up the extra 250 for news.

Basically, the Irregulars are super sweet. The only defect I see is a tiny indent on the right shoe. I'm still not sure that's the defect, but I definitely don't care. I will say this was my second Alden shoe purchase, first online, so I'm psyched it worked like a charm. So, if you have doubts about Alden Irregulars, that's normal, and you know one more person for whom it worked out well.

Hello, I tried to find more information about this, but haven't got anything really helpful.

I love the LS cordovan jumper boots, but they're sold out. However, the JCrew cordovan boots are very similar. I understand the LS boots are on the trubalance last and the JC boots are on the barrie.

Can anyone explain the differences between these lasts, and if the difference will be very noticeable between the two boots?

    Thanks.

Wow I didn't know they made fake Indy's.

If you're buying them solely for role play/geek conventions, then these would probably fit the bill.

You can probably get yourself a hat, shoes, whip, and pleather jacket for around the same price as the real Aldens and the Comic Conners will still be ecstatic.

The giant rolling boulder might be a little more.............

The irregulars are a bit like playing Russian roulette. They often work out, but there are sometimes real clunkers lurking in those white boxes. I've had both good and bad experiences.

if you haven't tried on either last it can be a bit of a gamble, i would definitely size down 1/2 a size... the good news is (and perhaps alden heads can correct me on this if they need to) the barrie and the true balance lasts seem to be fairly interchangeable. i really like the toebox witdth of the barrie last and the true balance feels similar to me. so i don't think there would be a noticeable difference in fits between the barrie and true balance for you.
