1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Is it wise to give new Cordovan a VERY light polish to help protect it from the rain and would it help prevent the little welts occuring ?
    Thanks

So, I just moved to the Pacific Northwest and am in the market for a pair of shell long wing bluchers (in either black or color 8). Problem is, I think I need that double waterloc sole, and I'm having difficulty finding a place that sells this specific combination. Can anybody help me out?

Try J Gilbert on First Avenue in Seattle. (jgilbertfootwear.com) they have a nice selection.

C&J use horween shells? i had always thought they used an english tannery as well.

They use Horween shell. As far as I understand it, there are only two produces of shell: Horween and one in Japan. That Japanese shell shows up in things like Brooks Brothers wallets.

Tricker's now uses Italian shell cordovan. Never seen it in person but was told by them.

I could have sworn they used Horween in years past though.

I'm wearing my C&J for Ralph Lauren chukka boots (the McCallum model) today, and they're great. I also have the Darlton wingtip, and I wish I had the buckle boots that they did for RL last year. I really like the particular shade of brown that C&J use; it's lighter than Alden's cigar but darker than ravello. If I buy another cordovan loafer, it will be the C&J Harvard or Cavendish model, because the Van last Alden uses for the 986 is just too tight across the ball of my foot.

Sorry, too many emails this morning asking me why they weren't available for mail order. I knew that was going to happen so it's my bad.

    +1.

Knowing that these were already sold out, I logged on this morning just to admire them. Great looking shoes.

BTW, I've been shopping around for a pair of Alden's in brown chromexcel, and realized that there really aren't too many styles available in the leather (and only two in regular rotation: Indy & PT boot). Given the leather's popularity and how quickly the available styles tend to sell out, I'm surprised we haven't seen more!

Personally, I'd love to see an LS Ultimate Chukka; chromexcel upper with a commando sole and antiqued edgetrim.
