Pre-ordered the Alden X J Crew waxed longwing (CXL) and it finally arrived today. Unfortunately it came with a cut in the right shoe near the ankle...

If they were bought on eBay for $150 less than the retail price I would have kept them, but this is not what I would accept for full retail (and J Crew told me I have to wait again... oh well). Btw, this boots are supposed to be made of Horween CXL (according to J Crew website), but the leather actually feels like regular calf and nothing like the other CXL leather goods that I own (Wolverine 1000 mile boot, a leather wallet and a passport case) Is this a mistake in the description or the polish Alden applied to them or what?

On a related issue, the stitching on the back of my unlined Chukka boots had broken off about two months ago:

The store where I bought them from helped me sent them back to Alden for repair, and earlier this week they told me that the boots were back. The only problem is that the boots are not repaired at all and now they are on their second return trip to Alden...

Yeah, I think we've discussed somewhere above, they are not chromexcel. That little cut seems fairly small and minor compared to some of the other defects I've seen on new Aldens.

I tend to me picky but that cut is not something I would have an issue with. It is your money though and your decision

Looking for some advice. If you had the choice between a Ravello NST boot on the Aberdeen last or a Ravello NST shoe on the same last which one would you pick. Thanks in advance.

I have a whiskey shell boot that I'd like to make darker. Is this possible without ruining the boots.

I'm great at keeping them them the same color and looking good, but Whiskey is too light. Right after I had Reno and Saphir Cordovan Cream, they look Ravello or darker, but the colo4 never stays. They always go back to super light Whiskey color.

These look great is the top picture "the before" and the bottoms "the after" or are they all after?

I'd love a darker whiskey. The picture of the LWB in Whiskey at The Bureau looks perfect.
