1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

    Cheers,

Professor RTP, is it still possible to drop this class?

Is understanding the proper fitting of the Barrie vs Plaza lasts a prerequisite for this course?

I too like both. Although admittedly nearly all of my calf is non-Alden (but I have some Alden calf and have nothing against it).

An argument can be made that a well rounded shoe/boot wardrobe contains shell, calf, scotch grain/country calf, and suede.

Nice combo tifosi! Love that tie. I am still breaking in my Tankers - haven't left the house but they are raring to go.

Here's a side by side of a Barrie (left) and the Wolvernine Model 744 (right):

Judge for yourself which one you think looks better.

The 744 is 11D and the Barrie is a 10D.

The 744 feels narrower in the heel area than the Barrie, and has a roomier toebox. I personally find the 744's relatively narrower heel/wider toe box combo very comfortable. In order for me to get a proper fit in Barrie, primarily in the heel and arch areas, I've had to move to 10.5C, which appears visually longer than a size 11 744 boot (C width addresses most issues that I had with the Barrie last fit).

UnionMade does have great service, and are quick to address issues.

And this is all Unionmade's fault and not Alden's right? As a retailer I'd be pretty annoyed if 20% of every order Alden deigned to confirm and produce had to be sent back.

before your ninja edit [IMG], I was going to just say that from the posts here about this, I took it as Unionmade threw their hands up at the condition of the shoe.. I'd be irritated if I received that pair posted personally, but luckily I've yet to experience such a poor item (from any retailer, other than my C&J McCallums [IMG])

I'd be annoyed too as a customer, it's just funny that all of the anger is directed at UM.

I would say its a 60/40 split. Alden QC shouldn't have shipped it. UM should have inspected their product particularly when the customer complaints began rolling in. Sad state of affairs for sure.

Someone on here mentioned that J. Gilbert has a order of 990's on commando sole arriving in March. I emailed them and said they have my size arriving and the price was $695.

My past purchase of a Alden Cordovan shoe was $645 and seems to be the going rate at the moment on most other websites. I guess when youre spending this much money a extra $50 isnt a huge deal to most people. Id prefer to not pay $695 if a better deal is available.

Alden seems to raise prices 30 to 50 dollars per year. $1000 shell will be a reality pretty quick here.

FYI. just got a shirt I ordered from NeedSupplyco and they sent a %15percent off coupon code that works on Alden shoes but Im not interested in any of the makeups they have available. Guess I will order something else but could be a good deal for anyone out there on the fence about ordering something off that site.

    +1.

It's not as though Alden's shell shoes are improving.

I have a couple of make ups to add in the next six months, from there it will be the occasional purchase.

    Suck it up young Spiffster!

Alden 101 is in fact a prerequisite for American Pedal History. The good thing though, is that AP History will fulfill your core writing requirement!

agreed. I have maybe 3-4 purchases left (shell) and I think I can tap myself out. most of these would be difficult as they'd be older variations (jcrew ravello lwb, olive'd cigar lwb)

I've been really impressed with epaulets carmina offerings of late, both in shell and other variations.
